The aroma had maple, caramel and mushrooms. The taste was chocolate with some mushrooms. Thick body. BlueDevil0206 (122), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 9, 2005 Updated: Jun 25, 2005Bomber. The pour revealed a fairly thin and light colored imperial stout. It was almost the color of a porter. Aroma was slightly estery which is usually not found in a IS due to the alcohol and roasted malt dominating. There was also discernable roasted malt in the nose and no alcohol or hops. Flavor was...clean. That sounds cliche but it’s true. There was some caramel and toffee and chocolate, minimal coffee and a bit of the aformentioned esters. No alcohol present in the flavor. It was just very easy drinking and no apparent flaws though it’s complexity overall was not great, I can’t say anything negative about this brew. Mouthfeel was thin for an IS but not horrible. All in all this beer exhibits IS characteristics but just above the border of a standard stout. Jonathan3584 (323), Washington, Washington DC, USA

It’s not nearly opaque, and pours out of the bottle a dark brown, rather than the motor oil black we’ve come to expect from American Imperial Stouts. The aroma and flavor are great, though. Very English, with a strong roasted malt to it. The English yeast leaves a very clean, rather than lingering aftertaste. It’s not the hop monster most American ISs are, but it’s still very good, and has all of the characteristics in terms of flavor -- it just looks and feels a bit thin. haddon90 (1039), Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Pours a solid black color with a thin tan head. Very sweet, subtle aroma. Chocolate and roasted malt and coffee dominate the aroma. Very smooth and sweet taste. Kind of refreshing actually Maybe a little light for an Imperial Stout. Sweet chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Decent. Not Lagunitas best though. cigarsnbeer (146), Valley City, North Dakota, USA

The color was there. but the flavor wasn’t quite what I expected. It was a little lite in that dept. But youcould do a lot worse in an IRS Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 27, 2005 Almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is malty with some butterscotch but dominated by chocolate and coffee. Starts smooth with some bitter undertones and flavors of burnt caramel and espresso. Really enjoyable. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2005 Bottle: Dark reddish/brown and a smallish tan head. Aromas were typical of an imperial, only a little lighter than your heavier ones. Chocolate and coffee seem to be the theme of the aroma. Flavor was slighly sweeter than the more roastier aroms, with toffee, caramel and chocolate, the roast and coffee are still there though. Decent, but its hard to follow Speedway.
