Commercial Description:
Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

thinnish-looking brown liquid out of a 22 oz bottle. took way too much effort to get a thin beige head on top, but even as i poured i got a good whiff of chocolate. smelling from the glass (closer to my nose anyway) there’s plenty of roast, and some non-chocolate sweetness as well (oatmeal or lactose sugar?) unfortunately, it is very thin, particularly for an imperial stout. but aside from that, the flavor is extremely enjoyable, with lots of roasty smoothness that lubricates the throat as you swallow, leaving a feeling a little bit like a chewed-up coffee bean in your mouth. not bad, but this beer needs to hit the gym and work out some more. i don’t care how; maybe get on some steroids, but it needs more muscle.

pours a dark dark red. not completely opaque. smal tan head. roasty aroma, but not totally pleasant. flavor is chocolate, sweet malts, roasty, somewhat bitter. very thin mouthfeel for an imperial. probably the worst imperial i’ve had so far, but not a terrible beer overall.

Smell is sweet, rich chocolate malts, brown sugar, copper pennies and fresh hops with a slight apricot aroma. Body is a very clear, reddish-brown color. Disappointingly thin for an IS. Head is large, building furiously into a standing 1 inch thick froth of light brown bubbles. Medium bodied (extremely thin for an IS) and feels slimy (saliva-like) in the mouth. Taste is first and foremost hoppy (bitter, metallic), along with the said sweet chocolate, figs and an interesting sourness and roasted hickory that finish off the palate. Alcohol amount is polite and unobtrusive. This is one of the least impressive IS’s I’ve ever had. A few months ago I had an entire keg of Dominion Winter Imperial Stout, which I frequented nightly, and that beer runs circles around this example from Lagunitas. They need to stick with the IPA’s.

Bottle. Pours dark mahogany. Pillowing frothy brown head. Nose is light molasses, caramel, light hops, milk chocolate and sweet malts. It’s a little on the thin side though. Taste is more milk chocolate notes, light caramel, mild piney hops, and creamy malts. Body is smooth and creamy. Light carbonation feel. Finish is milk chocolate and hops. Light bitterness. Sweet malts and notes of caramel. Kind of tastes like hints of Whoppers candy with light hops.

Big creamy head that falls somewhat quickly. Nice roasty flavors that’s not heavy on the fruit. A good everyday stout that I’d drink again.

Dark brown color with ruby edges and a firm decent sized tan head that left some good lacing. Lots of milk chocolate/cocoa in the aroma with hints of butter toffee and coffee. The taste had more bitter chocolate than milk chocolate, roasted malts, some carlel and molasses. Sort of watery for an imperial stout and a bitter lingering taste.

220z bottle. Brown with a tan head. Roasty, chocolately aroma. Coffee notes. Caramel and chocolate aroma. Very malty flavor with little or no hop character. Rich and thick palate. Nice beer.
