Slightly subdued subtly sweet caramel, malt smell with a bigger note of hops come together and give it almost a candy like smell. Not quite the hop bomb in the nose I expected, but it’s different, and nice still. Taste gives a candy like malt sweetness, and some hops, but not very aggressively so. I’d say its a mild IPA bitterness wise, and this is unique, very drinkable and a great IPA that I’d have again. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber gold with a moderate linen white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left very little lace. Very pleasnt hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pine, with more emphasis on the citrus. Some notes of malt are also present. The flavor is malt up front, albeit a bit restrained, followed by a strong dose of grapefruit and pine hops, again with more emphasis on the grapefruit. The finish is especially bitter, akin to the white pith of a grapefruit. A good IPA, but the bitterness is a bit over the top for me. This one is for the hopheads. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Taste is very hoppy and bitter with a faint amount of malt in the background. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2003 Updated: Mar 4, 200512 oz bottle-im going to keep this review simple. basically, what you have here is a typical left coast ipa-lots of hops and not much malt. If you added more malt, you would have SNCA. 45 ibu’s? Im thinking more around 65 on this one. solid beer!
rerate-i lowered my rating on this due to the body of this beer being too cloying sweet. the hops are not that strong and the aroma is fairly faint. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2004 It’s aw-aiight. Dark golden, decent white head. Yeast chunks thrown throughout. Typical, yet not that typical left coast IPA. I expect more from the west, gettin less though. Same piney, grapefruit, apricot, and light caramel up the nose canal. Flavor mirrors, but really just plain boring. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Like I said...it’s aw-aiigt and worth a try at least once.
