Spicy tea leaf and floral-honey aroma. Initial flavor is earthy-spiced honey and pekoe tea, turns more to a toasted bitter nut and dried wood. Finally finishes with a pleasant woody, earthy, dry cocoa aftertaste. Palate is smooth and nearly medium-bodied with a dry finish. Not your typical West Coast IPA. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2007 POurs a hazy orange with a small white head. Smells of some floral citrus and hops. Not a huge hop presence, but its there. Some grapefruit too. The taste is semi-mild, kind of a sweet hoppiness to it. Some cinnamon and other spices show up. Some grapefruit citrus arrives from the hops. Nicely balanced and fairly easy to drink. Nice job on this beer. Kind of a fruitier IPA. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Clear salmon tinted orange with a beautiful, full head of creamy foam. Butter and caramel, with loads of hop resin in the aroma, spruce and medicine jar. Malt is very lush and bold, creamy and full with a rich caramel, toffee and fruit flavor and I believe there may be some diecetyl, but in a desireable way. The hops are spicy and piney and could stand to be kicked up a notch or two, to be honest. I find it quite nice. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Their special releases are a bit better than this, but this is a good IPA. Aroma of grassy hops with a bit of sticky malt. Pour was a nice dark orange with a one finger white head. Taste was mostly grassy and earthy hops with a nice malt backbone. The malt balanced the beer out perfectly which I actually don’t like as much as the overly hoppy IPAs. Nice. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2006 Julios Spring Beer Festival. Aroma of distinctly Cascade hops (a trend I would continue to find at this festival). Pour of lightly hazed golden amber. Flavor follows with a swift kick of West Coast hopy fury, but reigned back and fairly balanced. The palate is a little thin for me, but smacks nicely of cranberries. Solid. Nice fruity taste with hints of pine, and a pleasant hop finish. Silky palate. A very decent IPA, not enough hops for me though. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
