Bottle while in Dunedin, FL. Pours copper color with little head. Aroma is piney and very floral. Good medium carbonation and medium body. Flavor is grapefruit, orange and hopped quite nicely. Wow this is a good way to tribute FZ.

Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is mostly citrus and pine hops and caramel malts. Thick on the palate but not too thick. Flavor is dominated by the citrus and pine hops up front with a background of caramel malts. Finishes slightly bitter and lingers. Very delicious IPA which was expected from Lagunitas.

Light amber pour with big, yet not that thick of a head. Big pine nose, with orange peel. Flavor is nice big and hoppy, medium body with a watered down grapefruit finish.

Bottle: The aroma has moderate sweet grapefruit, light pine, and faint pineapple. It pours a transparent amber with a Moderate creamy orange-tinted white head that lasts a minute or so and leaves behind some sporadic webbing for lacing. The flavor starts with a quick light dose of sweet caramel that quickly fades to a moderate pine and light grapefruit finish. There is a hint of acidity. There is some faint pineapple in the background. Light-medium bodied with some lively, but mostly soft carbonation. A solid IPA. I haven’t been in the mood for hoppy beers lately, but this was very drinkable.

22oz Bomber $4.49 Sam’s Chicago My second in the Lagunitas Frank Zappa series, if I’m correct it’s their second release. Kill Ugly Radio pours an absolutely crystal clear deep golden. Moderately sized carbonation bubbles stream to the big fluffy two finger white head that formed on the pour. The head sticks around for the remainder. Really a great looking beer. Not much sticking power though. Leaves some spotty lacing. The aroma is what I have come to love from a Left Coast IPA. Big juicy citrus grabs hold and won’t let go. Sweetened grapefruit and orange juice are unstoppable. There’s mild caramel back there somewhere but it just can’t fight it’s way through. Again, back to the basics of West Coast IPAs, just what I expect when drinking one. Juicy unsweetened grapefruit in the flavor with a dabbling of hop resins and a touch of aspirin bitterness. Toasty and caramel malt are there but this is definately a hop showcase. Medium bodied and utterly smooth. This beer just glides along your mouth. Finishes puckeringly dry and puckeringly bitter in the back of the throat. Great mouthfeel. I know the alcohol is high but I could sit and session this beer till I got too sleepy to go on. The mouthfeel and dryness make this beer exceptionally easy to drink. After every sip you need another. This beer is a big surprise to me. I tried the other Frank Zappa inspired IPA, and while solid, it can’t compete with this. This is a high quality, mouth puckering Left Coast IPA. I find some of Lagunitas beers a little on the sugary side with a big viscous mouthfeel. This on the other hand is right up my alley. Keep the Zappa series IPAs coming. I’d be happy to try them all. 9/6/07

22oz bomber. Didn’t know exactly what this was when I got it, but how can you resist a brew with FZ on it? Turns out to be a pretty flavorful IPA, and considering I’m not a big fan of IPAs, the high rating will tell you how good it is. Cloudy amber, steady white head, plenty of fruit flavor and hops.... all this and FZ too. Music just aint been the same without him.

22oz bomber, big thanks to Colin (General_Gao) for grabbing me this one! Clear pale orange with a one finger off-white head, fading to a film after a bit. Nose is full or fruity hops--lots of tropical fruit, citrus pineapple, and even light berry--and there are some biscuity malts in the background. This hops remind me slightly of Weyerbacher Eleven and the Phoenix variety that they had used. That said, I didn’t think the intense fruitiness of the aroma would carry much bitterness, but it did. More on that later. There was also a pretty good amount of grassy hops in the flavor as well, and the biscuity malts are again present. The flavor is still fruity, though not as much as the aroma had led on. Earthy bitter, semi-dry finish with bitterness creeping up to a 6-7 (out of 10). Alcohol was well hidden. Moderate carbonation with a lighter body than I would’ve thought for 7.8%. Lagunitas pretty much can do no wrong when they’re showcasing hops.
