Pours hazy orange, fluffy white head, nice and long lasting. Great hop aroma, lots of citus fruits, grapefruit, orange, mango and some resin. To me the taste was all hops, nice citric burst in the first sip. Good amount of bitterness, I didn’t notice the alcohol, a little thin and that made it easy to drink. Good brew.

Bottle: Transparent glowing golden appearance has a small, but well-lacing froth of white head. Great, fresh, grapefruity resiny hop aroma has a hint of sweet toasted malt. Body starts with decent fullness and crisp, piny citrusy bittering and flavor hops balanced with the perfect amount of lightly sweet, but not cloying crystal malt. Finishes slightly drier and bittersweet, nicely concealing the alcohol. A perfect example of a well-made IPA that isn’t a borderlined double IPA. Hopefully this will become a regular offering, because it’s best enjoyed fresh.

Rerate 10/2. I’m kicking this one down a bit because the palate heft, complexity, and taste didn’t seem to hold up as well when I let one warm up a little. Still very good, but not quite as good as I rated it initially. Bottle from Capone’s. Pours hazy medium copper with 1-finger off-white head and a lot of carbonation streams. Aroma is heavy dry hops, black pepper, tangerine, pineapple, mango, caramel malt. Smooth, crisp, very dry hoppy taste, with notes of black pepper, pineapple, and tangerine throughout. I enjoyed this one, and look forward to having another this evening. Well done.

Maybe this beer doesn’t stand up to the most tasty IPA’s out there but nowhere on the bottle does it claim to be an IPA. I find this ale to be bright and clear gold in color with a firm white head and nice lacing. Pleasant floral, pine, citrus and mango aroma. Medium bodied, the beer has a decent hop flavor with pine, citrus, some fruitiness and a hint of licorice. The malt flavor is lean but supportive enough. The bitterness is perfect, dry, puckering and leaving you wanting more. Amazingly drinkable for such a strong beer. I agree with mj that hops should be listed on the labels of IPA’s and I would add to that any American style that showcases our amazing hops. In the case of this beer, the prominent hops are Simcoe and Mt. Rainier.

Appearance is honey gold and clear, with a small white or off-white head. Nose is heavy on the dry pine nut hops (seriously, what hops are used? It’s pointless to make an IPA without listing the hops), some dry peach rind shows up as well, especially strong in the nose. Overall it lacks the fruitiness and “dankness” I expect in good IPA, instead it’s almost completely made up of pine nuts and dry, aged pine wood. Ok to good overall, but for IPA it lacks a lot.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Simple rendition, not very exciting. Very watery mouthfeel. Ok.
