adavis234 (133), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle from Green’s Discount. Pours a pretty red brown, mahogany color. A malt-heavy nose with a strong dose of hops as well. Toasted aroma too with hints of nuts and citrus. So much going on the palate is almost overwhelmed. Caramel flavored malts, hoppy bitterness, floral and citrus notes just to name a few. A nice, but not overwhelming alcohol-laced finish. Flavors linger on the tongue after each mouthful. I knew from the site before I bought it this beer was going to be good but it exceeds my expectations. Excellently flavorful beer. washoppinin (19), Florida, USA Oct 31, 2009 Truely lucky to find this one. Instantly became a fan with the great balance of malts and hops on the nose. Creamy texture of toffee, caramel with the piney, citric notes. How long could this age? jcos (23), Maryland, USA Oct 24, 2009 From Norm’s Beer and Wine.
I am a big fan of Lagunitas in general. Beer is a nice red color, with a sweet malty aroma. Flavor is decently malty with a good amount of hops. I like this beer, but maybe I’m not into hops as much as others. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Oct 16, 2009 A Mes rate: Bottle at GBBF. A good clean rich amber body with a thick beige head. Big, sweet and fruity malt. Good caramel and burnt sugar notes but not too overpowering, mainly held in check by the resinous bitter finish. Good mouthfeel, excellent length and flavour development. Excellent all round. I really like these Lagunitas barley wine / American strong ales. Quality. Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Oct 15, 2009 Deep gold, strong head and lacing. Aroma is hoppy and citrus peel. Nearly perfect body - strong malt perfectly balanced with a grapefruit bitterness. Maybe it’s the label, but I feel the need to listen to some rockabilly now. Changed (161), Ithaca, New York, USA Oct 15, 2009 22oz bomber. Pours... more orange than the advertised red. Thin white head that is gone before you know it. Aroma: citrus hops. Heavy body with a smooth finish, but still with some noticeable carbonation. Alcohol is well-hidden. Another very drinkable beer from Lagunitas. savnac (392), Palmer, Alaska, USA Oct 12, 2009 22 oz bottle. Clear reddish amber with a dense thick beige head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is caramel, toffee, citrus and pine. Taste is mostly sweet malt with just a bit of bitterness, very slight alcohol taste. Medium to full body with an active carbonation to lighten it up, syrupy mouth feel. This is a great, easy drinking beer.
