| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Very piney aromas set this beer off, with a nice balance of recipricating malts, a lit bit of alcohol, and a little hop resin. The appearance is absolutely awesome, use the right glass (snifter or trappist) the body is a very deep brown color, with a huge massive fluffy off-white head. The head dissipates slowly leaving little foam clouds attached to the side of your glass. The foam dissipates settles on the top of the brown body. The flavor is much more relaxed than the aroma, but nonetheless wonderful. The drink is excellently balanced, the malts reign in the aggressive pine flavor, and the rich hop oil. The feel is oily, and what that feels like is a certain amount of flavor that cloys the tongue after it is swallowed. The beer is resoundingly smooth throughout. The beer is an instant classic. 17thfloor (1486), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 22, 2009 2009 bottle. Pours a clear but dark orange amber with a nice frothy off-white head. Aroma is salty hoppy, some alcohol, pine, resin, ok but not great. Flavor is fairly boozy, quite distracting, bitter hoppy, peachy, just very very bitter without great flavors, fairly messy. Medium bodied slightly sticky. tarheels86 (762), Washington DC, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2009 22 oz bomber into snifter. Pours a clear deep orange with a billowing, creamy, tan head that has excellent retention and leaves sheets of lacing. Awesome aroma of fresh grapefruit, pineapple, strawberry cheesecake. Taste has the same pitfall as the Maximus DIPA: starts with great citrus hops and caramel malt but then turns to old strawberry cheesecake, nutty bitterness, excessive herbal hops, and some spicy alcohol. Finishes dry with big strawberry sweetness lingering. Not bad. How does Lagunitas create these strawberry cheesecake beers? cmonster (106), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Bomber served in a tulip. Deep dark amber in color. Good sized off-white head that leaves a substantial lace. Clear body, but looks dense. Big aroma that has a malty sweetness and a little hops. Barley wine-esque. Medium-full body. Almost candy-sweet flavor. Creamy and carbonated with a long, drying, bitter finish. This is quality brew! SamGamgee (1457), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Cask at the brewery during RBSG09. Dark amber with a small head. Lots of grapefruit in the aroma with some lighter pine and caramel. Juicy grapefruit hop flavors and a big caramel malt sweetness. medium bodied with medium carbonation. Sweet and candyish but with tons of hops for balance. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Very fresh nose of sweet citrus juice underscored by a touch of rind bitterness. This amber-red ale throws a lovely head. Juicy would be the best way to describe the palate. Fresh and oozing with hop fruit from start to finish. Malt is only here as a delivery device although it does find a nice balance on the tongue with sweet hops dancing. Dryish finish with some lingering sweetness and hop fruit. Refreshing for such a big beer, the booze is well hidden. Excellent price as well. 92 DalzAle (498), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Bottle. Orange/amber pour, medium carbonation and a very rich and dry hop aroma (like homebrewing hop pellets). Flavor was sweet caramelly malt, burnt creme brulee sugar and finished with some nice dry spicy hops and some good alcohol burn. Decent beer, and well priced. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Bottle. Auburn bodied with half inch cream head that produced plenty of lacing. Redolent of fresh hops both fruity and earthy, pineapple, very citric, a little brown sugar, even a hint of cinnamon and a hint of chocolaty caramel. Flavor is extravagantly bitter and resinous at first, then bready, sweet caramel, light hint of dark fruit, then the full on fruitiness of pineapple and grapefruit, a little raisin, and hint of dark chocolate with the strong alcohol finish. Palate is slightly above average with obvious lupulin, and has a well carbonated finish. Couldn’t drink a lot of these due to the strength and sweetness but excellent nonetheless.
