It would appear to be a very malt-dominated brew, but looks are deceiving. The aroma is dominated by hops. This is a beer that could double as an air freshener. The insane hoppage actually coagulates nicely with the heavy malt. The Lucky 13 is a big assertive, imposing beast of American goodness in a 22oz bottle. God bless those hippies at Lagunitas for making excellent beer at affordable prices! mmmbeer (754), Austin, Texas, USA

Aroma of caramel, malt, and hops. His the mouth with a medium body, sweetness like a finite sugar hits the tongue at the start and stays while the hops come inside and make themselves known- all which last after the finish. Very great brew, just might have to stock up on this. GAManiac (1175), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2008 Pours a deep amber with a small, dense off-white head that lasted quite a while and left excellent lacing. The aroma has a solid caramel malt background but with a big citrus and floral hop kick. The taste has the typical caramel malt background but has a very strong pine hop flavor and a hint of citrus as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with strong carbonation and a pleasant bitterness in the finish. This was a great example of an amber and the alcohol was hardly noticeable. changeup45 (793), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Updated: Jul 30, 2008Bomber. Citrus hoppy aroma with some caramel and toffee underneath. Amber color, nice clarity and pours with a tan head that settles to a foamy ring and patches. Strong grapefruit hoppy flavor, especially up front with some pine. Nice toasty, sweet caramel malt flavor follows and provides nice balance. Finishes bitter and dry. As usual, Lagunitas provides quality for a great price. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from start to finish. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2008 Clear, bright crimson color, creamy raft of foam above.
Sweet malty aroma, rosy, fruity, grapes and berries. traces of sharp alcohol, fierce hops.
More of the same in the flavor, much more, big bed of malt, great smack of hops, but one too bitter. Great blend of hops and malt, despite the "mondo" nature, the higher booze, etc, this is well-balanced, well-integrated.
A tasty "high-gravity auburn offering"...gets smoother as we go, if the alcohol does start peeking through. Wait, here it comes...okay, here we go...

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2008 A bright amber color with a smallish tan head and minimal carbonation. Aroma is tart hop with some caramel. Taste is full of hop! This could be a double IPA. The hop is well balanced by a good amount of malt but hops rule here. They come in just under "overpowering." Pine flavor is dominant with a lesser amount of grapefruit. A bitter after taste is not long lived and steadily fades and is best if given a minute or so between sips. An excellent beer that hop lovers will adore. hombrepalo (773), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours a clear orange-amber with an average size off-white head. Big hoppy aroma backed by caramel malt and fruit -- smells great. Flavor has a nice amount of hops, resin & citrus, with a nice caramel malt backbone and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied. Nice and tasty, I found this very easy to drink.

Smell is grass, hops, with a little pine and citrus. Decent balance. Taste is medium bitterness, some malts and caramel. Just ok.
