Commercial Description:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California's best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet's only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon's Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero's path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

Red-orange amber, a little hazy, compact beige head. Aroma is sweet cookie caramel and citrus hops. Palate is quite generously malted and hopped in good balance, robust as expected from these guys. There is an interesting acidity to the finish that lightens everything, almost a tartness in a way. It brings to mind the California common style-- could this be an imperial California common?

Poured from a 22oz bomber and served in a shaker. This beer poured a clear, dark amber with a thick, lasting, foamy head. A good amount of heavy lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of fresh pine, oranges, and sweet, toasted caramel. Also a bit of brown sugar. The flavor included resiny, citric hops, grapefruit, and a solid dose of caramel. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. A pretty straight-forward West Coast brew. Exactly what I expected from Lagunitas, which isn’t a bad thing. They put out consistently tasty and fairly priced beers.

Poured draft at The Galway Tribes (Frankfort, IL). Poured a clear dark reddish amber hue with a small tan head that sticks around. Aromas are malty, largely caramel and booze. Initial puts an empasis on the sweet malty flavors with some bittering hops behind it. Finishes a touch bitter but still sweet. A full boozy brew that was enjoyable, but lacked as much complexity as I expected.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a clear red-amber with beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and alcohol. Flavor is semi-sweet caramel malt with nice hop flavors with a nice hoppy bitter. Medium-full body with med-high carbonation. Overall, pretty good stuff!

22 oz bottle. Poured a mahogany color. Taste is a large range of flavors, from sweet malt, to roasted malt flavor, ending with a nice hoppy bitterness. All the strong flavors are nicely balanced, although my girlfriend thought it was maybe a little too sweet, and I thought the hops was a little too strong. Whatever. Really like what they’ve done here.

Bottle from slimchill. Thanks, Slim! Pours a reddish amber with a small white lace. Nose is sweet and hoppy as expected, but nothing noteworthy. Taste is the same with a mild metallic bite in the somewhat biter finish. Good, but to me, very uninteresting.
