Pours a rich amber with a nice head of offwhite. Aroma is malty pine with orange. Flavor is a tangy grapefruit with a sour orange offset. Nice mouthfeel. Not bad, but too malty for me.
Brewsmith (53), Torrance, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 From a 22 oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is hops and toast, slightly sweet and malty. The color s a burnt orange amber that is crystal clear with a thick beige head. Flavors are some orange citrus with the bitterness from the hops, some toasty bread from the malt, and a hint of sweetness that is carried away with the hop bitterness. Full bodied and not over carbonated. I like that the hop flavor compliments malt, even with the higher gravity. Nicely balanced. Not as over the top as Red Rocket, but some similarities. coldbrewky (489), Saugerties, New York, USA Aug 27, 2008 Bomber shared with my contractor last night. Big hoppy and forceful in both nose and body. Pours a very nice deep amber in the glass with a bubbly head. The 8% is in the wings but still pokes its head out and relaxes the senses. Maltly finish. ross (1525), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Aug 25, 2008 Bottle which Daniel brought. Thank God it was more redeeming than that Genesis was. This beer pours out a dark red color with a tan head on it. The smell is very malty and full of caramel, sugar hops, grass, and a touch of citrus. Taste is great, alcohol is well hidden, sweet and malty as well. Nice hop profile included in this one as well. A nice beer that reminds me of Arrogant bastard, if not a tad more bold. Good stuff patrick767 (1403), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 24, 2008 bottle - Pours amber with a medium sized, lingering head that offers some lacing. Pine and citrus hops merge with caramel malt in the aroma and let us know what’s to come. This is a hoppy beer in case you hadn’t gathered that from the 77 IBUs. It’s said that humans won’t taste much beyond 80. It’s not a double IPA though as the malt profile, and the hops one to a lesser extent, is distinctly different. There’s more caramel goodness in this beer. The heavy citrus and pine accented hops are joined by plenty of malt to give a bitter but balanced flavor. This medium bodied brew has a long, heavily hopped finish. Very nice. GJF (218), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Aug 23, 2008 Incredibly rich beer. Pours a beautiful copper with thick white head. Malty aroma and the flavor is up front malt (tons of it) and caramel with a slight smokiness and spiciness followed by an alcohol warmth and just a bit of hop bitterness in the finish. Nice beer from a wonderful brewery.
