Big hop aromas and deep caramel notes in the nose. Slightly slick on the palate and medium bodied. Big hop flavors balanced against a strong, colored malt backbone.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Pours deep garnet, more copper when held to the light with a 1-2 finger creamy beige head that has good retention and leaves a sand smear of lacing on the opposite side of the glass. Aroma is big on sweet caramel, citrus hops, rich floral notes, toasted nuts, some medicinal notes on the back end. Flavor is sweet, caramel and grainy malts right away, lots of sweet citrus (orange, tangerine and blood orange) light ceral and nutty notes, a little toffee and again light medicinal notes. Palate is medium bodied, syrupy-somewhat creamy throughout and lightly carbonated. Not too shabby really, were it not for the medicinal notes it would score higher, but as it is it is one of my favorite offerings from Lagunitas. FROTHINGSLOSH (2015), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-amber color with a large soapy orange-beige head The aroma was caramel, nut and full of fruity, floral and piney hops. The flavor was sweetish with notes of caramel, nut, fruity hops and pine. The finish was long, sweet and hoppy. The body was fairly thick. Well done. TheHulk (140), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Smells like a bouquet of hops, like some old english authour should have written a poem about how his love for you is like the smell of this hops. Dark brown, bit of red, lots of suspend particulates that make it tasty. Still see throughish. Fairly robust malts and strong hops make this a nice hearty ale, but it makes me wish for a proper IIPA with the strong hops and weak rest of it. The fisish is fine, but weak after such a strong opener. A nice ale, but all I can think of is upgrading to a much more stouter brew. Hoptagon (144), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2009 22oz. Bottle. This one has a nice ruby red color with a beautifully lacing slightly off white head. Strong pine needle oriented nose with more subtle notes of honey and toffee. Shows a slightly sweet flavor with a potent, but not over done layer of resinous piney bitterness. The malt character tastes like biscuits, caramel and freshly made dough. The balance between the hops and malt is very well done with neither one dominating. Has the typical Lagunitas IPA style sticky and oily texture with a persistent carbonation. The finish is not as dry as most others in this style. Exits with a quick hit of bitterness on the tongue and a lingering note of caramel. No trace of the alcohol anywhere to be found although if you polished a second bottle, I bet it would start to catch up with you. Highly drinkable and another great session beer to work into the rotation from Lagunitas. WLG423 (73), Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2009 A dark autumn color with almost no head. Strong dark fruit notes with notes of pear and apples and crisp fruit. The citrus hop character is also apparent in the aroma. A sweet and complex flavor with a brown sugar and molasses at first. The flavor develops with hop notes of citrus. A nice smooth mouth feel with a thicker body. The finish is nicely balanced and carries the whole flavor, not fading or diminishing too quickly. A nice brew. oteyj (772), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Brown pour with orange tints and a nice frothy white head. Aroma is quite pungent: A large citrus hop profile combines with plum, pear, toffee, copious caramel, and some boozy notes. Flavor is very sweet: Caramel, honey, brown sugar, and mild light nectar fruits. Further notes manifest in the form of citrus and resin, though the abrasiveness is mitigated by low attenuation. Palate is syrupy, smooth, velvety, and finishes clean. Yummy indeed. craftycarl21 (560), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Pour is a deep mahogany color with a small, cream colored head. Aroma holds generous amounts of plum, raisin, pear, apple, and a touch of toffee and molasses. Some citrus hop notes mix in with these fruity notes nicely. Flavor has booze, honey, pink grapefruit, brown sugar, and some earthy tones as well. Really nice complexity and balance in the juxtaposition between malt and hop. Palate is quite nice; sticky sweetness misses with the alcohol presence and some hop bitterness to create a full and bold mouthfeel. Really solidly crafted ASA from Lagunitas. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 29, 2009 This one had an odd funk to it that kept throwing me off. There’s lots of honey everywhere in this one and the hops don’t really mesh well with the particular flavor. Piney hops taste a bit watered down and the citrussy ones aren’t apparent. I get what the rater below me is saying about how the initial taste is a bit off as it hits your palate--something definitely seems amiss. Overall a bit odd of a beer.
