Commercial Description:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California's best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet's only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon's Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero's path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

orange red with little head but lots of lace initial aroma allows discernment of floral and pacific fruity notes, later a medicinal rubbing alcohol rears its head. This has a huge malt bill and is very chewy. Scotch like character. It may be the beer which most reminds me of Double Bastard. It was ok but not something I would seek out again.

BOTTLE: Killer stuff. I grab the bottle and read this very humble shout-out to other great brewers (printed on the label), then I try the bottle’s contents....and it takes a backseat to no one. Clear red-orange pour with a beautiful huge soapy head. Smells like a caramelized IPA - full aroma. Taste - pine hop with loads of creaminess that makes it very easy to drink (yet loaded with hop flavor), full mouthfeel - this is just an exceptional brew all the way around, and done in true Lagunitas style. Hats off - well done!

a decent brew that tries to balance its malt sweetness with a hop bitter. red amber beer that says bready malt upfront but finishes with definite hop bitter punch.

Pours deep garnet, more copper when held to the light with a 1-2 finger creamy beige head that has good retention and leaves a sand smear of lacing on the opposite side of the glass. Aroma is big on sweet caramel, citrus hops, rich floral notes, toasted nuts, some medicinal notes on the back end. Flavor is sweet, caramel and grainy malts right away, lots of sweet citrus (orange, tangerine and blood orange) light ceral and nutty notes, a little toffee and again light medicinal notes. Palate is medium bodied, syrupy-somewhat creamy throughout and lightly carbonated. Not too shabby really, were it not for the medicinal notes it would score higher, but as it is it is one of my favorite offerings from Lagunitas.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-amber color with a large soapy orange-beige head The aroma was caramel, nut and full of fruity, floral and piney hops. The flavor was sweetish with notes of caramel, nut, fruity hops and pine. The finish was long, sweet and hoppy. The body was fairly thick. Well done.

Smells like a bouquet of hops, like some old english authour should have written a poem about how his love for you is like the smell of this hops. Dark brown, bit of red, lots of suspend particulates that make it tasty. Still see throughish. Fairly robust malts and strong hops make this a nice hearty ale, but it makes me wish for a proper IIPA with the strong hops and weak rest of it. The fisish is fine, but weak after such a strong opener. A nice ale, but all I can think of is upgrading to a much more stouter brew.

22oz. Bottle. This one has a nice ruby red color with a beautifully lacing slightly off white head. Strong pine needle oriented nose with more subtle notes of honey and toffee. Shows a slightly sweet flavor with a potent, but not over done layer of resinous piney bitterness. The malt character tastes like biscuits, caramel and freshly made dough. The balance between the hops and malt is very well done with neither one dominating. Has the typical Lagunitas IPA style sticky and oily texture with a persistent carbonation. The finish is not as dry as most others in this style. Exits with a quick hit of bitterness on the tongue and a lingering note of caramel. No trace of the alcohol anywhere to be found although if you polished a second bottle, I bet it would start to catch up with you. Highly drinkable and another great session beer to work into the rotation from Lagunitas.
