Commercial Description:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California's best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet's only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon's Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero's path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

The malt is extremely malty. Good bitter presence. The sweetness is somehow independent of the malt if such a thing is possible. Lagunitas hides that abv really well. Not quite a red IPA but a great combo of malt and hop. Slightly too bitter finish.

22 oz bottle. Pretty nice aroma of melon, sweet fruit, brown sugar, sweet spices, and a variety of hop profiles, including pine. Small beige cream head on the pour, good lacing, and as described by lagunitas, auburn in color. I get a lot of the same notes from the aroma in the flavor description, but bitterness largely earth and pine and with a little citrus grapefruit, strong and intereting linger, highly chewy and sticky feeling, theres a ton of sweetness and bitter, but it seems slightly off balanced to me. Not bad at all however, with a lot of good things going here.

On tap at the 2008 Hop Scotch Festival in Seattle. Didn’t write too many notes. Wrote, "very bitter" and "very red". Interested to try again.

22oz bottle. Pours a clear ruby red body with a very foamy and creamy, off white, inch thick head that dissipates slowly and remains very lacy. Medium sweet caramel malts and strawberry candy sugar in the aroma. A decent amount of citrusy (probably Cascade) hop backing. Flavor is pretty nice. A very full malt beginning with a light syrupy sweetness. The moderate, almost sharp, citrus bitterness then kicks in and really balances and finishes nicely. Dry and lingering. Palate is full and very smooth with a light carbonated feel. Overall, this is a great sipper. I really like the balance. Very well done.

Lagunitas Lucky 13 is a hazy red-amber ale with small particles floating in it. It has a foamy, eggy, pale yellow head that has good retention and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is of strong, sweet malt. There are notes of resin and herb and a faint hint of cinnamon. It’s pretty full bodied, smooth and syrupy. The finish is slightly gritty. The flavor is quite sweet. The bitterness is pretty good, so it balances it out. The aftertaste is long and sweet. It’s a little sweet for my taste, but it’s solid and good for sipping.
