Oats and barley with grapefruit, caramel, and banana, all with a nice alcohol base? Weird--but it works. Of course I had it at my wedding, so that could have prejudiced me in favor of this odd brew. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Ruby pour with good tan head. Good lacing. Aroma lightly malty with a touch of hops-smells a little watered down. Flavor is malty with roasted malts apparent but alcohol is hidden. A good brown ale. Finishes nice with just enough hops to cleanse the palate. Good beer. Would be better with a more aggressive nose. hotstuff (3181), Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy of bdigi66 at the Fort Wayne Winter Gathering.Small fizzy ivory head that mostly diminished, spotty amounts of lacing, very little carbonation, transparent, and a reddish brown hue. Nose was hoppy, grapefruit, malt, and some spice notes. Flavor was not as good as the nose IMO.Hoppy, spicy, bitter, some maltiness, and seemed to be somewhat acidic.Medium in body.I am not sure what was going on with the flavor of this beer as it seemed to be somewhat disjointed and did not leave me wanting this one again. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 24, 2008 A dark amber appearance with a rather large head. The aroma contains a hint of citrus but plenty of dark fruit and caramel. The flavor is quite malty with hints of chocolate and raisins. Some citrus in the background. Overall this one is a confused beer and stuck in the middle of the hop and malt world with not much complexity. Its pretty good anyway. thehoff (569), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Dirty Amber/Brown looking body with nice tan head. Nice nose, malty like a deep imperial stout but also a slight dark dried fruit smell. Nice flavor, great coordination of the bitter and the sweet, coffee notes, molasses. Quite a nice beer. Very drinkable. brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Not a bad brew but also not the best Lagunitas I have had, my favorite is still Kill Ugly Radio. This brew was very malty and one could almost immediately tell by the dark cooper color of the body, smooth but felt it was overwhelmed by malt and not enough hops. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
