Bottle, sampled at Christmas during family beer tasting. Dark brown in color with hints of red and a tan head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, toffee and perhaps nuts. Flavor was pretty clean with a nice blend of flavors. Cocoa, earth flavors, with toffee and caramel. Some orange like bitterness in the finish. Liked in more than I thought I would.

Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Body is mainly a toffee type malt with some hoppy backing. A nice nutty flavor in there too, maybe chestnuts or hazelnuts. Reasonably well balanced. Kind of wish the Zappa beers were better overall but this one is at least solid.

Chestnut pour decent head. Sweetish body with roasted malts. Quietly smokey fruits are there as well as a biscuity quality. Not too impressionable, but drinkable for sure.

Bottle. Pours brownish red up to light with an off-white head. Eathy, nutty faint caramel nose. Very bold, strong nut brown ale. Light cocoa, toffee and earthy hops. Well balanced flavor, ample hop bitterness. Not too sweet. Full, round and creamy on the palate with moderate carbonation. Solid.

bomber. pours clean and clear with a ruby brown color. short lived white head. nutty chocolate aroma with a lot of caramel present. faint hops hide in the back. nutty flavor finds chocolate in the middle and ends with a solid toasty finish. well pronounced hop bitterness keeps this from being too sweet.

In short: A big hoppy brown ale. Tasty, unfocussed, good
How: Bottle 22oz, about 4 months old.
The look: Clear ruby body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Well malted body, lots of cereals with toffee and caramel. Rather nutty but no specific nut flavour, pecans, peanuts, hazelnuts, etc., just a bit of everything nutty. Fruity notes of the prunes and dark grapes type. A whole lots of leafy hops with flavours of dark tea, citrus and tree bark. The listing of individual flavours might seem to indicate a kick-ass beer but the truth is that the whole thing just felt kind of all over the place. Still a pretty decent beer. Brewed to celebrate to the 40th anniversary of Zappa album I didn’t even know existed. Nor did I know the album “The Rise of the Eagle” by “Gods of War” existed, which isn’t surprising since I just made that up.

Poured brownish with a small thick head. Smelled hoppy and carmelly. Tasted smooth and sweet, some carmel, toffee, and brown sugar, and then also piney and bitter. Very good beer.

Pours a clear, dark amber brown with a one-finger head that recedes to a good ring and some swirl in the middle. The aroma is slightly hoppy up front but it’s the caramel malts that are more dominant with hints of toffee. The taste is similar to the nose and leans a little bit toward a very light scotch ale. It’s big on caramel malts with toffee and butterscotch. The hops are no more than an afterthought at this point. The mouthfeel is smooth was decent carbonation and a little more sticky than a typical brown ale. This is an interesting and unique brown ale with a little bit of hops and a little bit of scotch ale characteristics.
