Very thick mouthfeel. Touch of roasted flavors, and then the hop bitterness comes out to play. Not a bad beer, but nothing special (besides the FZ reference.) kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2008 22 oz bottle via Roth’s. She pours clear dark copper with a large beige head. Not getting much from the nose..just a bit of chocolate, subtle smoke and some caramel. There are a lot of flavors. The caramel is there and part of a solid malt backbone. Also some chocolate, some hazlenut, a bit of smoke, and some earthy and grapefruit hoppiness. Very balanced with a lingering bittersweet aftertaste. Body is medium and carbonation low to medium. Is a bit cloying. But quite tasty and drinkable. Much better than the horrid scores indicate. I wonder if people are drinking this too cold? I don’t know but at about 50f it is quite flavorful! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 8, 2008 I was kind of surprised by this one, as it smelled and tasted of distinct hops, though it had neglected the bittering aspect. When I smell and taste a lot of hoppy character, I would like something to back it up and I felt this was lacking. Mediocre. Darkover (1316), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Bottled, shared at the PP Bottle Shop 2/7 tasting. Clear medium copper color with white bubbly edges and minimal head with spotty lace. Pine forest aroma with roasted caramel and some sappy hops doing their thing. Floral and pungent citric phenols with grape and a firm malt presence make for an enjoyable session brew. Spicy and peppery hops touch it off well with some bitterness sticking around in the aftertaste that fades relatively quickly. ElGaucho56 (393), USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Draft @ BSP. Pours a dark reddish brown with decent thick cap and some stratified lacing. Nose is mildly fruity, almost like strawberries, faintly grassy and rather sweet. Burnt toast, biscuit malt, and brown sugar coat the palate, ending up with an earthy, slightly leafy bitter finish. Not bad, but not great. Seems like Lagunitas just kinda cranks these varieties out. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Bottle - poured a deep red with off white foam. Aroma of musty dank basement and malt. Flavor is sweet and malty, caramel/toffee with a light coffee note balanced by an assertive hoppy finish. As the beer warms the coffee becomes more demonstrative. Medium to medium full palate.
