| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2008 pours a shine amber with brown highlights and nice than persistent head leaving really nice lacing.
Nose of nice caramel a touch of alcohol and some dates in the aroma.
Tastes really similar to what is smells like - caramel with spicy and pithy hope flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodies with a creamy notes
Finish is dry, creamy and lingers for a bit with some spicy hop flavor and caramel notes.
Overall: For a limited release comes across as a huge amber with accent on dark crystal malts saving grace being the hops are present to eliminate the cloying effect. Methinks the caramel notes make it hard to enjoy a full pint of this...Skips along the line of being a little brother to a barleywine - feels stronger in alcohol than the 7.2% - some aging may make it like an old ale or little brother of the Gnarlywine. mrant (330), New York, USA

| 1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Too much malt. Way heavy thick beer. Sure there are some flavors in there that pop out but it’s not fun to drink more than a glass of this. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a medium sized off white head. Aroma is noticeably nutty, light biscuit malts. I found the taste to be very pleasent, not that stroner- a lighter mouthfeel with semi sweet flavors of trail mix, carmel and peanut butter. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 16, 2008 22oz bottle: Ruby-brown pour with a thick, everlasting head. The sides of the glass are completely covered with thick cobwebs of foam as the beer is drank. Husky malts weigh down both the aroma and body. Muddled and heavy, definition is hard to discern. A generic bitterness works to coat the tongue with resin. This beer is hard to pull individual flavors from - I get some burnt caramel and semi-sweet chocolate, but even these are hard to pull out. I mean, it is a flavorful beer, but the everything just kind of collides into a mess of sweet malt and rindy bitterness. SDalkoholic (1198), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. There was a decent amount of heading paired with a reddish mahogany color that I could already tell this was nothing special. The flavor had an upfront malt backbone with almost no sign of hops and the aroma is easily to be the same. Okay stuff but it seems Lagunitas keeps releasing boring stuff when I’m expecting some heavy hitter formulas.
