Lots of aromatic hops and esters to delight the senses. Rather malty with a bitter hoppiness in the taste. Lagunitas rarely disappoints. My chat with Tony at Lagunitas bears witness to the fact that they are always up to something good! BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2004 Reddish amber hue with a small off-white head and good lace. Mocha, nutty malts, aromatic hops, barnyard yeast esters and light spice detected on the nose. The taste of a tradional seasonal ale, malty and yeasty with a mild bitter hop presence. Some acidic quality on the finish. Dry and dusty mouthfeel, soft yet lively. Different as are so many Lagunitas beers. Interesting twist on the basic style, does need a bit more bite. Give it a try. Thanks loweredsixth for the brew. Reid (1092), Salem, Oregon, USA

beer poured a brilliantlly crystal clear bright brown colour..small frothy head..goes fast leaves a goodly sized lace on the glass though.
For some reason the aroma in this beer seems subdued a bit''a litle malt..some roastedness..but its faint.
However the taste is pretty strong and good..nice chocolate malts..some good residual hop bitterness near the end.
Feels good and creamy on my palate..nice enjoyable beer for sure.
Pretty drinkable ale..its a very good "seasonal".
NOTES: for some reason this beer reminds me a lot of "Dark Island" from Scotland.

Nice dark orange color, clear, small head that left a nice ring the whole way down. Sweet roasted malt,coffee/molasses. A little hops, a sour citrus flavor. Starts smooth & watery, then ends on a dry bitter note. Good ale overall, lost on the nose. Nice flavor when you roll on your tounge. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2003 Malty nose of honey, vanilla, and maple. Mild flavor of pine, vanilla, and sugar. Quite a nice flavor overall, with very mild hop presence, and a full body. A touch of sweet honey on the tongue balances a slight bitterness just enough. BeaverBrown (245), Portland, Oregon, USA
