Nice mild malts, nutty and slightly sweet. Hops are also milder and are slightly spicy. Well balanced. Smooth taste. Then there is this chocolate taste that comes out of nowhere. Very drinkable beer. This is a very different beer for Lagunitas and very non-west coastish. But I like it! Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. NICE beer. This is a bottle of pure goodness. Nice sweet malt taste with an all so subtle hop bite. Yeast, bready, chewy and everything I love. I love you guys. omhper (12218), Stockholm, Sweden

Smelled of fruit and hops with notes of cranberry. It had a nice sweet taste to it closed out well by a slightly tart finish. LaChad (1375), San Francisco, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2003 Dude, this beer is subtlely awesome, thank you beerguy101!!!! It pours a medium amber color with hints of magenta with a small wafty white head. The aroma shed hints of caramel malt, sugar and nuts. The taste rocks...its interestingly caramelized and nutty at the same time...a little too sweet at times, but definitely not bordering on bad at all in terms of sweetness. Perfect carbonation level and nice mouthfeel...not incredibly thick by any means. Syrupy sugar feel in the aftertaste..dry and thick aftertaste. Very nicely crafted... Reid (1090), Salem, Oregon, USA

beer poured a brilliantlly crystal clear bright brown colour..small frothy head..goes fast leaves a goodly sized lace on the glass though.
For some reason the aroma in this beer seems subdued a bit''a litle malt..some roastedness..but its faint.
However the taste is pretty strong and good..nice chocolate malts..some good residual hop bitterness near the end.
Feels good and creamy on my palate..nice enjoyable beer for sure.
Pretty drinkable ale..its a very good "seasonal".
NOTES: for some reason this beer reminds me a lot of "Dark Island" from Scotland.
