Smells of berries and malt with yeasty tones to it. Taste is light for such a dark looking beer. Taste is yeasty and filled with berry taste. Aftertaste is somewhat bland and watery. Decent considering my general distaste for belgian ales. Aurelius (2655), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 30, 2005 Light Belgian-like yeast aroma, with some powder and cigarettes. Ruddy and clear. Boozy -tasting for the 6.3 ABV. Tart, yeasty, a bit of aspirin, moderate bittering. Medium sweet, clear, woody, dusty. Pretty good and off the beaten path. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2005 I enjoyed this beer. It’s like a ’Brown Ale’ meets ’Belgian’. Nice looking pour, w/ a 1cm off white head, and a clear bronze body. Roastiness & sweetness. Give it a try argo0 (7041), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2005 (22oz bottle) Fluffy off-white head atop a crystal clear copper body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, some nutty, herbal, raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, brown sugar, caramel, herbal, some raisin, light orange peel. Clean medium body. On paper it looks to be fantastic beer, but the taste is a notch below that -- still good, just not great. Heatwaves (56), Santa Ana, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 21, 2005 Lagunitas did a fantastic job with this entry. What a wonderfully pleasant brew. That being said, I tend to prefer wheaty, malty beers that have a shade of sweetness. My favorite local brewhouse, Hollingshead deli, has been recommending this beer, so I decided to give it a whirl. Phenomenal deep brown color with a nice, dirty head. Flavor is a creamy, yeasty malt base that has a hint of sweetness laden with a sugary creme brulee finish. No unpleasant aftertaste at all. I’m definitely buying more of this one. Yum! notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 16, 2005 Doesn’t really taste much like a belgian dark ale, but then again, Lagunitas never really makes anything that adheres strictly to style - other than that, this is a pretty tasty brew - roasty, toasty maltiness rests atop an undercurrent of belgian-like, sugar sweetness and a light yeastiness - not one of their best, but quite good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 15, 2005 Pours a clear deep copper amber with a thin white head. Aroma of burnt marshmallows and mild Belgian yeast. Starts sweet and dark with some roasty caramel Belgian maltiness and mild biscuit flavor. A confused, but lightly complex brew. ratman197 (3273), Arvada, Colorado, USA
