Aroma of candied apples, malt, light cocoa and yeast. Moderatley sweet, some pear and light caramel notes. Not too bad. hayduke (1654), Eureka, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 19, 2005 A pretty good beer, I really don’t like sweet beers, but this one was sweet, and good, I actually wish there was a stronger alcohol presence, it would have helped this beer, oh well, it was still decent! 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Bottle: Brownish, copper hues, moderate off-white fizzy head that settles quickly, spotty lacing, actually its fairly sparce, very light carbonation. Doughy brown sugar aroma, slight dark pitted fruit... seems a bit heavier than a Belgian Brown. Quite toasty on the tongue, a tad viscous, thick, a bit sugary, very very slight soy... this one is slightly bizarre. Finishes quite sugary, not as yeasty or bready as other belgians. Big body with a huge mouthfeel, but again to me it doesn’t seem all that belgian like. Finishes quite sweet, very much in the brown sugar sorta way, with soft dark pitted fruit flava.   Interesting, but not really what I would consider a Belgian Ale. Thanks Bob for sending this one!

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2005 Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is medium orange-brown.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted bread, caramel, nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot), moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of raisin and orange peel.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
I like how when Lagunitas makes a Belgian brew (see also #10), they don’t muck with tradition too much...there’s no west coast hop stink or overload of spices. Just a nice clean Belgian brown ale with a pleasant attic-like yeast strain. Very good flavor balance...kinda tough to stop drinking. This is a solid performer and delightful to drink, but is admittedly not that exciting or challenging, so I can understand the average score so far. Still, my hat is off to Lagunitas for keeping the reins pretty firm on this one. Aubrey (2777), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2005 Bright ruby-red hue; OK head. Sprightly, enticing nose (sweet). Nice mouthfeel -- smooth, rich and chewy, with a moderate carbonation. Seems to have equal parts of sweetness, sourness, and bitterness (herbal; plant-like). Toasty brown sugar, smoldering wood, dark toast, and cooked caramel notes. Has an earthy, yeasty element as well. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
