Good malty (some bread and earth) and hoppy mix, nice (but all) pine, and ultimately a good bit of sugary sweetness. Became cloying, sticky, a tad uncomfortable in the back of the mouth . Looked nice, smooth, slippery mouthfeel and I bet the wife will like the rest of the bottle. I felt the alch. right away!

22 oz bottle. Ah finally, a new beer to try. Pours a brown color with hints of amber red, with a half finger high off white head that stays for a bit. Smells of lots of caramel malt, a bit of hops, and most interestingly, some fruit, which smells a lot like pineapple. Tastes of lots of caramel hops, and this interesting pineapple taste; the hops kind of died apparently. Very smooth going down. Maybe not my favorite barley wine, but probably the most interesting (especially with this pineapple).

Pours a small head with a reddish brown body. Tastes of raisins, citrus, with a strong alcohol and bitter finish. Syrupy mouthfeel.

2006 on tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’09. Pours clear orange amber with minimal head. Powerful fruity hop aroma with some caramel malt. Well balanced. Nice thick mouthfeel and hop finish.

On tap at Firkin Fest 2009 - Pours a clear copper with a small tan head. The nose is rather sweet, a lot of pineapple, and mango notes. Comes across the palate strong with pineapple, vanilla, caramel, and hints of banana. Finishes with a subtle hop finish. Very tastey.

Sampled on draft at Smokin Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a dark caramel-brown color with a trace of a khaki head. The aroma was bitter, sour, fruity and a bit harsh. The flavor was bitter fruity hops with sour malts and a caramelized pineapple element. The finish was long, sour, malty and fruity. There was a sour off flavor to this one that I found unpleasant.

Really not super complex, but really darn good. Whiffs of chocolate and citrus. Flavors of chocolate, soy and sugary lagunitas goodness. Thick and overall a nice treat. This was a 2008 Vintage.
