Lagunitas Olde Gnarly Wine

Draft thanks to the Muddy Pig and Hoenstiens. Nostril clearing alcohol and sweat aroma. Tanned red leather color. Tasty candy malt and very smooth mouth filling finish. Left me wondering what aging might turn loose.

650 ml, 2008 release. Creamy, quarter inch head stays atop the clear ruby-copper body and deposits frosting all over the glass. Aromas of caramel, orange, oak and light cocoa. Flavors of toffee, oak, earthy-spiced raisin, chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, orange and resin. Medium-heavy body is smoothly carbonated, a little sticky in a nice way, and finishes slightly dry.

Bottle kindly shared by grOve. Burned caramel, raisins. Well balanced in its extremeness, full sweet malt playing up to the hops that work hard to add dryness. Honey, molasses, and it certainly needed the hoppiness it got.

Sweet fruity nose, with some floaties in the appearance. Just an awesome barley wine. Hoppy, fruity, awesome-y.

Nice hoppy and sweet aroma of toffee and dark fruits. Dark amber pour. More toffee and sweet dark malts with a nice fruity presence and a nice floral/peppery hop back. Smooth and creamy enjoyably awesome and incredibly balanced beer.

Medium yellow beige head. Deep red body. Intense strway grainy malt aroma, very firm and deep, with raisiny caramelly notes and traces of citric hops. Dry-sweet intense straw and malts taste with caramelly burnt almonds notes. Fruity alcoholic notes, too. Citric, bitter hoppy notes throughout, as well as toffee. Dry burnt almonds and citrus aftertaste. Very, very good. (0.65l bottle shared by gr0ve.)

Buy this beer. Buy a lot of it. Awesome contribution to the stylie in the old way and right way. Smells of malty sweetness with lightly toasted toffee. Taste is sugar butter on toast and raw smooth maltiness that makes this puppy addictive. Mouthfeel is seductive, leaving just enough behind to want more. Awesome beer. Y E S.. this beer seriously is GNARLY. It’s sweet, smokey, malty. It’s everything a world class beer should be.. I’m kinda buzzin, but if you see this beer, anywhere, you should get it.
