The beer is a thick caramel malt base, immensely sweet, but somehow not cloyingly so. This one was screaming for a bit more hops, as only a faint grapefruit presence was noted...and even that I’m doubting only because I wanted it to be there so badly. Very, very little bitterness in this one made it a tad difficult to drink. Still, not a bad effort. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 7, 2008 22oz bottle with maybe a few months of age. The pour is a nice muddy red/brown that I expect from barleywines. The aroma is much more complicated than I had anticipated. Good notes of caramel, fruit, and spice all well blended. The flavor was much the same, with very little alcohol presence other than the nice warming sensation. A very pleasant and incredibly drinkable barleywine. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Small smooth tan head that mostly expired, fair amount of lacing, transparent, fizzy, lively, fast rising carbonation, and a reddish orange hue. The aroma was malty, caramel, sweet, hints of chocolate and toffee, hops, some pine and citrus. The flavor was malt, caramel, hint of chocolate, hoppy, citrus, lightly bitter, and sweet. Fairly smooth mouthfeel and medium bodied. Very quaffable, easy to drink, nice balance, and worthy of a try. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2008 650 ml bottle. Pours a rich mahogany with a quickly diminishing tan head. Rich malty nose with notes of figs and cherries. Full bodied malt profile with smooth fruity richness against an appropriate hop bitterness. Finish lingers with a touch of sweetness and a slight alcohol warmth. PolakPorter (82), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Jul 30, 2008 MMmmm...thick, syrupy, malty and oh yeah, bursting with hops! After a long night of drinking, it almost tastes like a strong ipa. Make no mistake, this is a quality barley wine. Beautiful deep golden red color with a sweet, fruity scent. It goes down thick and sweet with a little bitter kick in the ass. A very enjoyable barley wine (but not for weak).
