lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA May 14, 2008 maroonish amber pour with a lasting beige head. Looks nice. Smell is kind of a dull non-descript cardboardy sweetness. Taste is fairly sweet up front, but balanced beyond that with moderate hopping and some alcohol presence as well that I don’t particularly care for. Has some syrupy, yet balanced alcohol and pine flavor, but not abundantly flavorful...The malt is kind of cardboard like and dull. Slick, thick syrupy mouthfeel but with a soft prickly bite. If only the smell and flavor were as nice. Found it to be a bit above average, but not spectacular. duffman462 (160), Gainesville, Florida, USA May 14, 2008 Body is a hazy amber. Very quickly diminishing head. Nose is sweet and lightly alcoholic. Very little hopping is evident, with a syrupy-sweet caramel body. Not bad. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 13, 2008 Updated: Dec 12, 200808 Bottle. Pours a clear ruby-copper color with a thick beige head that stuck around quite well. Really nice aroma of caramel, some nice citrus grapefruit, orange with some resinous pine in the background. Nice lightly sweet caramel malt with some light toffee with strong undertones of grapefruit and other citrus, leading into a lightly piny, dry finish. Very full, slick mouthfeel. I only tried this because I didn’t realize the guy I was going to send it to could already get it, but I will probably pick up a few more now. Aquilo (248), California, USA May 13, 2008 Pours dark red-brown with a thin white head. Smells of nectarines. Flavor is cherries, then lemon, and then hops. What I love about barley wines is that they can be fruity, and yet have a wonderful complexity to them. I smell and taste several different fruits here, and yet it has a hoppy kick to round it all out. Palate is syrupy, but not in a bad way. Excellent all around. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 12, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear ruby with hints of orange. Small off white head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, piney hops, and alcohol. Flavor is a nice balance of malt and bittering hops. Undertones of citrus fruit and warming alcohol. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2008 Bottle from Canals. Hazy Dark pour like a cloudy amber. Fruit aromas are definetly noticeable with caramel malt and citrus hop. Pretty much the some notes are in the flavor but really blended good. I can’t say enough on how this brewery is really coming along finely. zootfinster (179), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a nice abler color. Tastes of fruit and citrus Doesn’t taste like other barley wines I’ve had but it is really quite enjoyable. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA May 10, 2008 tap at flying saucer. thoroughly enjoyable... sweet malty and citrusy hop flavor. Super sweet malty flavor preceeded by hop kick. This beer has balance but it takes a few seconds for it all to come together. Interesting and delightful
