Pours crimson copper with thick beige head, good retention and quite a bit of lacing. Aroma is pungent brown sugar, toffee mead, sticky dried fruit, toasted malt and a very light touch of sourness. Flavor is solid, lightly sweet toffee, caramel malt flavors, deep in the backround a touch of well blended floral and even some citrus hops. Finish is a little bit of herbal bitterness and lingering alcohol. Extremely well-balanced, rich and indulgent. Tasty enough to drink on a regular basis. IrishBoy (2704), Bakersfield, California, USA

Pretty good barlewine; glad I let it rest for over a year in the cellar. thepilferer (23), walnut creek, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2007 2007 drank 2007. 22 oz. bottle. poured about a walnut brown color with a 1/8 head that dissipated in a bout a minute. aromas of alcohol most prominent along with malty sweetness. flavor was less sweet than other barleywines i’ve tried, and had more hops and earth flavor. definitely alcohol is not hidden. i bet it will be a lot better in a few years, which is good because i bought a case from the brewery. fakepurseninja (777), Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 12, 2007 Very rich and malty - just what you would expect from Lagunitas. Lots of fig and raisin complimented by a great hop presence in a role not noramally seen in a Barleywine. Not overly sweet, but there is a strong taste of caramel and toffee. I really enjoyed the hops in here, a curveball from a traditional barleywine but who cares! Hops never hurt anyone, keep tossing them into the vat. I like how the style is actually Barleywine on this one, not American Strong Ale, like most other Lagunitas drinks - buck the notion of traditional classification, great beer is just that - GREAT BEER.
