moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Jun 23, 2006 "Very good offering from Lagunitas here. The Gnarlywine pours a dark amber color with a solid head. The aroma is very nice--plenty of caramel malt followed by piney hops. The taste is the same--and the mouthfeel is sticky and full. I liked this quite a bit. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2006 Dark amber color with a beige head. Aroma and flavor of dark fruits/berries, toffee and hops. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Jun 19, 2006 Bottled (Thanks MrWalker). A bit hazy amber reddish colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is plum, alcohol, candysugar and some fruity hops. Flavour is mainly the same, but with hops coming in more strong and balancing it up. Very wellbalanced and welldone Barley Wine. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 18, 2006 Oh heck yeah. Deep reddish brown, small head fades into a lasting ring. Aroma of pine resin, citric hops, and chewy toffee. Initial malt thrust of thick caramel and coffee gives way to fantastic hop bomb of pine and citrus that leans towards grapefruit. The flavors linger wonderfully in the mouth long after the sip is finished. A magnificent, overtly American barley wine. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jun 16, 2006 From Liquidsolutions. Had to get this as a filler for my Fred from the Wood. Sure as hell glad I got it, this is one awesome barley wine. Pours out dark red with a yellow colored head that goes away quicker than I thought. Taste is sweet, hoppy, slightly grassy (too fresh) and rich. The more I drink of it, the more the hops subside to a nice malty backbone leaving a very drinkable, very enjoyable Barley wine. One of the better examples of this I have drank in a while. Great beer, and I think as a whole this breweries beers are under rated - Ive never been disappointed from them. Great brew here. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Jun 15, 2006 Bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle. Fruity, sweet, vinous hoppy aroma. I detect dried fruits, oranges, grapes, peaches as well. THere is also a sweet, sugary and caramel aroma to this. Very enticing. Transparent amber/orange color with frothy yellowish head and nice lacing. Slight sweetness to start, turning more hoppy in the middle with some earthy hops. Finishes very roasted and quite malty with some caramel notes. Alcohol is well-hidden and the body is silky. This is a wonderful West-coast barleywine that is extremely well-balanced. Well-done!@ Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Jun 15, 2006 Starts off abit malty, sweet, with fruits, then as I got through it hops became more present. The alcohol really hit me quick, this one should be taken slow.Great brew! On tap at Hollingshead’s, Orange, Ca. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 13, 2006 Bottle. hazy amber colour with a firm tan head. Flora and grapefruityl hop aroma with a dense sweetness of blackberries and caramel. Aromatic grapefruity flavour of flowers with a solid malty backbone of blackberries, plums and molasses. Long floral aftertaste of blue fruits and figs with a strong aromatic floral undertone. A really nice US BW with a pleasant maltiness. Thanks MrWalker.
