mephisto (1144), Taiwan May 24, 2006 copper hue with a thin off white head, the aroma is mildly sweet. rich and chewy. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA May 23, 2006 22 oz. bottle from "twenty ’aught-6". Pours a cloudy amber with a big khaki head that leaves a little lacing. The aroma leans toward the hoppy side of things. Grapefruits, lemons and some oranges dominate, but there is still some caramel, malts, vanilla and alcohol in the aroma too. A medium, smooth body. The initial taste is quite sweet with plenty of plums, caramel and sugar. Finishes with a decent amount of hoppy bitterness, a little graininess and the SLIGHTEST hint of alcohol. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA May 20, 2006 Nice ruby body, minimal tan head. Awesome aroma, yeast is pronounced, caramel malts also. Great body, typical taste of a barley wine, nice malt accents, some fruit is evident as well. Green grass in the end, some light straw as well. Very nice. DiamondD (38), Sammamish, Washington, USA May 20, 2006 This a nice barley wine. The nose on this one is very complexed as it warms.
Reminds be a little of the Lee’s Harvest
ales from England. Not to hoppy. A classic barley wine should not be overhopped. Leave that to the IPA’s. This should age well. I have’nt put a
review in for a while, yet this one spurred my thoughts. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA May 15, 2006 From bomber. Copper/amber pour with tan head. Caramel malt and brown sugar with some fruits in the nose. Flavor followed with an added dose of sweetness. Not much bitter to speak of. Pretty solid BW. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA May 14, 2006 small white head with a see through reddish/brown body.i could pick up cotton candy, caramel malts, and brown sugar in the aroma.flavor boasted the qualites of the aroma, and added some alcohol, and dark fruits to the mix.mouthfeel was full and the palate was long-lasting. jrob21 (1251), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 14, 2006 Average light brown head. Clear brown color. Smells of caramel and resin. Tastes of vanilla raising, plum, and prune. Full bodied and sticky texture. Long finish and heavily sweet. Smooth balanced beer. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 9, 2006 Fairly standard viscous amber. Aroma of raisin bread, dates and rich caramel. Subdued hop aromatics. Wholesome, slightly salty malt goodness jibes well with some slightly citrusly hop intonations. Like outerupt noted, this tastes like it has more age on it than it does (I mean that in a good way, not an oxidized sort of way). Enjoyable but not quite outstanding - a little more syrupy than I like my barleywines. Very nice warming finish though.
