Dark amber with red highlights and a brief beige head. Ripe fruit, caramel, hops, alcohol aroma. Full bodied. The malt and fruit are evident in the flavor with the alcohol in the finish. Gnarly, Dude.

Bottle from Pailhead. Red, ruby colored with a nice tannish head which leaves good lacing behind. Piney and citric hops cover quite a bit of the malt and alcohol that is also present in nose. Body is medium, well carbonated. Flavors blend caramel and toffee notes with the obvious hoppiness. Alcohol is there but tucked away in corner. Well done!

2006 bottle from....Shigadeyo maybe? Pours a very nice copper with an off white head. Aroma of sugary malts, alcohol, berry, and wine. Medium bodied with some slight syrupyness to the texture. Flavor of caramel and raisin countered with some muted, but still bitter hops. Some vineous qualities as well. Finish is warming but with an overwhelming amount yeast and dust. For a barleywine, this not aging well nor bad. However, I suspect this is past it’s prime. The fading hops are not leaving enough of an interesting malt profile to mix with the alcohol.

Bottled: Pours dark reddish brown with a small head. Sweet aroma of chocolate toffee. Flavour is quite sweet and has more chocolate toffe and perhaps a touch of dark currants. Finish is alcohol bitter and warming.

Twenty ’Aught 06 release. Pours garnet into a snifter. Head quickly recedes to skim rim. Dark caramel, pine and resin aromas. Sticky and full with upfront melted dark caramel and a lasting resin finish.

Bottle acquired in a trade. Brown/copper ruby body, amazing pillow head for something this strong. Nose is brown sugar, plenty of dark fruits, some tobacco, rich caramel malt. Flavor is plum, brown sugar, alcohol. Hops have mostly faded. Some honey. Great creamy body.
