Surprisingly sweet taste. Took awhile to warm up to, but I can say I will soon have another. Rerate 10/02: Great beer. Would be an IPA if it wasn't for the sweetness. Loaded with hops aroma and taste. Great beer, great brewery.(had it off tap this time). ReRate 2003: Yes, this is one of the finest Lagunitas beers I've had. Very well done. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2003 A deep muddy brown murky hazy tone with a mountain of brown head. Has an aroma of spices, nuts, chocolate and alcohol. Tastes buttery, bitter, even some bile seems to be present. Too hoppy for a barleywine though. Has a creamy finish, and the aftertaste of jager. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2006 Bottle: Pours a ruddy red amber with little off white head. Aroma is clean and sharp with a malty sweetness and hints of alcohol. Taste is pleasantly smooth with notes of plum, caramels, malty sweetness, sugars, and just a bit of hops. Not nearly as harsh as some barleywines. Very nicely done! joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2001 A big ass Oreo cookie aroma! My drinking mates and I jumped back at this unique, potent and funny aroma. I’m also getting some Tootsie-Pop. Oooh this is nice. Low effervescence, blunt and well-balanced malt flavors. My Friday evening is starting off nicely... Bill, this one’s jumping the Georgia border just for you! If this keeps the nose and gains vinous qualities this is a winner. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2006 From Liquidsolutions. Had to get this as a filler for my Fred from the Wood. Sure as hell glad I got it, this is one awesome barley wine. Pours out dark red with a yellow colored head that goes away quicker than I thought. Taste is sweet, hoppy, slightly grassy (too fresh) and rich. The more I drink of it, the more the hops subside to a nice malty backbone leaving a very drinkable, very enjoyable Barley wine. One of the better examples of this I have drank in a while. Great beer, and I think as a whole this breweries beers are under rated - Ive never been disappointed from them. Great brew here. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 24, 2005 Pours a three-finger light tan head, fades slowly and leaves some lace. Clear amber color. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Nose is woody spices. Starts with a semi-sweet flavor, body is quite viscous, almost syrupy, smooth with a bite at the end as some hops kick in. $5.45 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. blipp (1685), Newark, New Jersey, USA

The aroma is sweet and hoppy, with caramel, orange, honeydew and other tropical fruit. The flavor is well balanced with sweet caramel and fruit and a very nice shot of floral hops. Very tasty and very drinkable.
