22oz bottle. Dark copper color with a small off white head. Sweet, fruity malt aroma, candied alefruit, caramel, some higher alcohols. Earthy, herbal hops, bready caramel and fruity malt flavors. Piney, citric component, some alcohol presence. Sweet, somewhat raisiny finish, lingering alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is heavy, somewhat chewy and hot.

Draft 1999 vintage. Could taste the aging. Thick and syrupy, not unlike a Thomas Hardy's in a way. I don't know what a fresh bottled one would be like, but this is very good stuff.

Bottle. A nice version of the style w/ a slant towards the hoppy side. Not hoppy like Bigfoot, more well balanced, but a definite West Coast version of the style.

22 oz bottle from Bev4less in Santee. Pours a translucent amber brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is strong with caramel, lightly roasted malts, dates, plums and hops. The flavor is similar to the aroma, with the biter hops taking on a more pronounced role. The mouthfeel is malty full and satisfying. The finish is long and biter. Overall: If you are in the mood for a big biter barley wine, then this is a good choice. Recommended.
