6/17/06: Bottle.
Full hop aroma with a deep garnet body which is tranquil with no head or lace. Flavors include citrus hops, malt, caramel, fruit and spice. Nicely complex, other notes… alcohol is well hidden.

Aroma is slightly sour and hoppy. Clear amber-orange color with a medium tan head. Alcohol bitterness through out fading slowly afterwards. Creamy palate.

A very classic lagunitas brew. Pure hops and pure malts that are very solid. Color is dark red and flavor is sweet and hoppy. A great brew.

An incredibly complex and delicious beverage. Very sweet, yet also a strong alcohol presence. A very full complex mouthfeel of fruit and roasted malts. Not the heavy hops of most Lagunitas beers, which I guess makes sense for a barley wine. Sampled at 2009 LA Craft Beer Fest.

1999 vintage: Bottle pours a hazy red color with little head and some surface lace. The aroma is dried fruit, yeast, and light hops. The flavor is mellow, subdued hops, malty, some weird vegetable taste, and slightly alcoholic. It coats the mouth from front to back. Overall, this might have aged a bit too much and lost some of its character. I really only dug this out to wash down the Cantillon Gueuze. Have I rated too much today? Perhaps. No more.

Pours an amber color with thin off-white head. Aroma is off bright caramel, toffee, light fruit and mild alcohol. Taste is much the same with the overall character being a bit more brash. Carbonation is about average but a little too much for a BW.
