Big malty aromas of carmel and toffee. Citrusy hop aromas, too.
Medium coppery red, tan head that collapses quickly but leaves a nice ring of foam at the edge of the glass
Rich, malty start with citusry, piney hop character. sweet almost cloying finish.
Full body, light-med carbonation. Sticky
Very nice barleywine. a touch on the sticky side, would be nice to be a touch more attenuated. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Great body, typical taste of a barley wine, nice malt accents, some fruit is evident as well. Green grass in the end, some light straw as well. Very nice. ogglethorp (890), Ohio, USA

Appearance is a beautiful ruby red, thin white foam. Flavor is very sweet, fruit, bread, caramel. A little bit of the alcohol comes through, but not much considering the 11% ABV. Finish is fruity, slight piney hop bittering, booze. Very nice! Calssic Barley Win, and a good representative of the style. Thick and oily mouthfeel.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Fruitiness dominates the aroma, followed by spicy hops, and finally a good malt backbone. Hazy amber color, acceptable head for a barley wine. As with the aroma, the flavor presents itself in layers - sweet at first, followed by moderate fruitiness, spicy citrusy hops, and then it finishes dry and bitter. This is a potent beer - a tongue scorcher, being both intensely sweet and bitter at the same time. Very nice. fakepurseninja (789), Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 12, 2007 Very rich and malty - just what you would expect from Lagunitas. Lots of fig and raisin complimented by a great hop presence in a role not noramally seen in a Barleywine. Not overly sweet, but there is a strong taste of caramel and toffee. I really enjoyed the hops in here, a curveball from a traditional barleywine but who cares! Hops never hurt anyone, keep tossing them into the vat. I like how the style is actually Barleywine on this one, not American Strong Ale, like most other Lagunitas drinks - buck the notion of traditional classification, great beer is just that - GREAT BEER.
