A deep muddy brown murky hazy tone with a mountain of brown head. Has an aroma of spices, nuts, chocolate and alcohol. Tastes buttery, bitter, even some bile seems to be present. Too hoppy for a barleywine though. Has a creamy finish, and the aftertaste of jager.

A nice aromatic barleywine. Scents of hops with slight fruitiness and mild malt. Flavor has solid hop bitterness which becomes more rounded and balanced by malt as one consumes.

22oz bottle with maybe a few months of age. The pour is a nice muddy red/brown that I expect from barleywines. The aroma is much more complicated than I had anticipated. Good notes of caramel, fruit, and spice all well blended. The flavor was much the same, with very little alcohol presence other than the nice warming sensation. A very pleasant and incredibly drinkable barleywine.

2003: Pours a dark copper with a big thick lacing light tan head. Plenty of western hops exploding out of the bottle mesh well with the sweet caramel malt in the aroma. Starts real nice and sweet with good floral hoppy attributes and caramel malt complexity, but becomes more bitter and unbalanced toward the finish. Still hides the alcohol very well. This has all the makings of a great barleywine, but they just don't blend together as well as they could.

Tap at Redbones: Poured cloudy orange with a thick dissipating cream colored head. Big malty/hop aroma. Flavor is nicely balanced with fruit hoppiness and sweet malts. Very tasty.

1997 vintage at (Toronado Barley Wine Festival 2003). Rich amber pour with no noticable head. Bitter and smokey contrasted with a strong caramel and toffee flavors. A bit acidic. The body opened up as it warmed and become much more smooth.

Brandon, Fl. - Kingdom Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Medium copper pour, sticky khaki-colored head. Fresh, fragrant aroma, floral notes, sticky pine sap and cotton candy. Juicy flavor, fresh citrus, apricots, caramel, candied sugar and an underlying syrupy maltiness. Thick, sticky - in a good way - mouthfeel. Lagunitas delivers again.

22 oz bottle: Medium very hazy amber w/ a lasting cream colored head. Caramel malt & lemony citrus hops up front. Very perfumey alcohol & medium fruitiness a combination of hops and caramel green apples. Malts are toasty and bready as it warms and take over the aroma profile. Pretty well balanced throughout. Caramel and toasty malt flavor with lemony hops. Medium fruitiness is light green apple & herbal hop pops up as it warms. It also gets a bit sweeter as it warms into the finish, but it does not become cloying. Aftertaste is toasty malt, citrusy hop, and a light touch of caramel. Fuller body, well hidden alcohol in the mouthfeel, low carbonation, very smooth. A good barleywine, but not a great one from the ones I’ve had so far.
