not very aromatic, does have sweet plum like scent to it, nice ruby body with a fat white head that faded fast, plums and pumpkin pie is the flavor its ridiculous - with a little hops in the end with some more spice that bites your tongue on the way down,

Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. I had heard good things about this beer but I must say WOW. For once this barley wine is very drinkable while still fresh. Thank god Lagunitas decided not to be cliche and over hop this BW. Pours a beautiful reddish copper color that appears to glow when the light hits it. The head is small when first poured but turns into a nice white rocky ring around the snifter. Very tall, I am impressed. Nose is very sweet, malty, and hoppy (but not overdone.) Also dry and somewhat caramel esque. Taste is all the same with a nice honey mouthfeel and lots of warming sweetness on the palate. Very well done, grade A and high marks. This is what a Barley wine should be!

No doubt about it, this is one mighty fine barleywine. Spot on for the style and rather similar to a year old SN Bigfoot. Clear amber/copper color, thin off white head and plenty of good lacing. Underlying grainy aroma with a robust sweetness of rich, hearty malts. Sugary plums, thick toffee, and floral/perfume like hop scents. A thick, smooth sipping beer. Sweet and mildly bittering with a great finish and prolonged aftertaste. Flavorful with a mixture of burnt toast, raisins, toffee, bitter flowers and dark cherries. A touch of pine along with a woody, fibrous taste. An overall mellow blend of aromas and flavors that tickle the senses. I liked this one a lot, it really is what I look forward to in a well crafted barleywine.

A lovely, dark amber from a bottle from Kenwood Liqours. Light tan head, very malty aroma with caramels and candy. many barleywines (in th US) call themselves Barleywine "stye" - some are really barleywines disguising themselves for public consumption and some are really not barleywines, bgive the drinker a good idea of what they ar taling about. This is one of the latter. A strongh caramel and stong hops, but very drinkable comared to some of the real BW’s out there.

a very hoppy barley wine, just the way i like it. almost like an IIPA. sticky and resiny. perhaps a little sprucey. an excellent choice. I’m never let down by Lagunitas

Draft thanks to the Muddy Pig and Hoenstiens. Nostril clearing alcohol and sweat aroma. Tanned red leather color. Tasty candy malt and very smooth mouth filling finish. Left me wondering what aging might turn loose.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Total Wine - Richmond, 7/14/09

Aroma: Smells of dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, some nice hop notes.
Appearance: Mildly hazy reddish-copper, small creamy off-white head, lots of lacing on the glass.
Flavor: A really nice taste, complex and enjoyable, immediate taste is sweet and fruity, flowing nicely into caramel, and then a wonderful sweet hop backing finishes it off.
Palate: Really smooth for an 11% beer that somehow has no alcohol burn, really nice mouthfeel.
Overall Impression: I’m impressed! This was a very nice beer, it came at a reasonable price, and had a nice taste. Great job of making a big beer, giving it complex flavors, and hiding alcohol pretty well. Really nicely done beer by Lagunitas.

2003 vintage on tap at the Portland Barleywine Long Haul Tour. This barleywine really stands out due to the fruit quality in the malt, hints of apple and sweet cherry gave this brew a great personality and lots of depth amongst the sweet sugary caramel malts. Very well balanced with a smooth mouthfeel. Pours a lighter orange/brown, slightly hazy with a medium white head.
