Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of roasted and caramel, heavy orange for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with notes of date, toffee, brown sugar and vanilla. Head is small, frothy, off-white, with almost no lacing but has good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear, flat orange/copper. Flavor started moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter/sweet. Palate is medium to full, syrupy, has a carbonation between flat and soft, and finishes lightly alcoholic. A heavy, full bodied Barley Wine to be savored at length.

22 oz. bottle - pours clear, dark amber with almost no head; sweet, malty aromas; drinks a little rich and very smooth; IMO, just a notch below the brown sugga’ 3/9/08 update - snifter @ beverage place barleywine bacchanal; 2004 vintage; texture was a little flat with the age, but this was very good and had developed a lovely texture to it

Bomber shared with Lee and Aaron. Pours amber red with a thin white head. Aroma is big and malty with a huge hop nose. Powerful malty taste with tons hops trying to balance it all out. Hops are much more bitter than I expected, but still a very smooth barley wine. Finishes with a big bitter hop finish.

Pours a reddish brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, of good malt and hop balance and a little alcohol. Flavor is fruity, malty and with a little hop and alcohol in the finish. On tap.

Pours caramel brown with minimal light tan head. Aromas of brown sugar, caramel, and slight hops. Sweet malty flavor with hints of grapefruit. Not as hoppy as a lot of American barley wines, more true to the style. Full body with minimal carbonation and a thick, syrupy, stick mouthfeel. A decent barley wine that I will probably have again.

2009 release. Bomber poured into a snifter. Brilliant ruddy scarlet color with a fluffy tan head. The bubbles seem coarse but the retention is solid. Aroma is maple syrup drizzled on ripe grapefruit. Accents of fresh wheat bread, orange, and caramel. Flavor is candied fruit galore. Pineapple, orange, and especially grapefruit. Some caramel and maple syrup again but those notes are truncated by a substantial bitterness. Finish is warming. Body isn’t really full but it’s robust enough. Modest carbonation, semidry finish. A pretty solid barleywine.
