Aroma is of hops, malt, wheat, bubblegum, and alcohol. Taste is dark fruit, hops, caramel malt, alcohol, and spice. Alcohol presence is huge in this one. Mouthfeel is sticky and oily. Not drinkable, definitely a sipper. Warms immensely. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2009 Pours medium copper red with a 2 finger peach-tan head that has good retention. Aroma is citrus, caramel, overripe apple, crusty bread, dark fruits and lots of brown sugar. Flavor is mandarin orange, grapefruit, caramel, dry roasted nuts, a little pine, cannabis, mango, brown sugar and some woody notes. Finish is brownsugar covered, caramel filled grapefruit. Palate is thick and sticky with a thick, sweet finish. Overall a highly drinkable, but somewhat uninteresting barleywine with a nice hop presence. HonkeyBra (1373), Lemont, Illinois, USA

Pours ruby with barely any head, a tiny bit remains on top of the ale. Aroma is mostly sweet, caramel malt with a strong hops. The flavor is intense: sweet with hops, citrus, pine. Surprisingly balances for a barley wine. Overall smooth with a sweet finish. Very rich and impressive.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Buttery, fruity aroma (plum, cherry, apricot). Candy sweet grassy malts, plenty of floral hops. Strong medicinal alchohol aroma. Spicy notes (cayenne, clove, black pepper).
Brown sugar + toffee candy flavor up front. Fruity dominance in mid plum, apple, cherry, berry and apricot. Hoppiness comes out as a peppery grapefruit note.
Lightly toasted biscuit malt finish.
Moves quickly from start to finish, dosn’t have the lingering alchohol taste I find disagreeable with many B-wines.
Smooth palate, some tangy mouthfeel. Clean, syrupy finish that I dig.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Nice red-brown pour with a moderate biscuit colored head. Big fruit aroma, very raisin and plum heavy with some caramel and brown sugar as well. Excellent mixture of citrus and especially caramelly malt with some nice spicy essence as well. Excellent barleywine. 3Faveryrogue (113), Aslip, Illinois, USA

A bomber of high ABV kickass barleywine for $4?!? And to think I was just about to buy a 6er of Busch. Ha. Amber pour. Thin white head. Fruit and caramel dominant all around. Toffee and brown sugar come through as well. Sticky. Excellent hops. Good example of everything I look for in a barleywine. Will continue supporting Lagunitas products.
