A bomber of high ABV kickass barleywine for $4?!? And to think I was just about to buy a 6er of Busch. Ha. Amber pour. Thin white head. Fruit and caramel dominant all around. Toffee and brown sugar come through as well. Sticky. Excellent hops. Good example of everything I look for in a barleywine. Will continue supporting Lagunitas products. The pour on this is a gorgeous, beautiful clear dark ruby with a 2 finger super fluffy beige head. The aroma is incredible: sweet piney hops, vinous but no overbearing malty overtones as in other barley wines. Flavor is warm with a subtle malt/vanilla with a bitter lemony aftertaste to counterbalance. Semi-coating mouthfeel and still with that refreshing but soft lemony/yeasty aroma and flavor. No lacing. Like this puppy a lot. TChrome (1300), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2003 Aroma is rather restrained but mostly hoppy, citrus, twinge of pine. Appearance is quite attractive amber with off white head that is modestely retained. There is good lacing. Flavor is a bit edgy. I think this will benefit from aging. Anyway, flavor is initially hoppy/bitter. The finish is all barleywine, sweet and lingering. Good not great barleywine. Zach Diesel (907), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2007 2007 bomber. Pours thick. Amber color with a decent beige head. Smells of brown sugar (light molasses) and caramel, and underlying dark fruits. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is brown sugar, overripe plum, and citrus and resin hop. The finish is rather dry after the sugar leaves, and there is a very nice bitter build up. Definite fine lacing as the glass level drops. Alcohol is noticeable, but it doesn’t distract from the other elements. Beats a milkshake anyday. Strykzone (1494), Wood River, Illinois, USA

A delightfully complex fruity aroma. Flavor has plenty of alcohol with dark fruit and yeast. Very big and quite nice. The flavor stays steady throughout. Very nice! They were not kidding about that ABV, either. What a good barley wine!
