BlackForestCO (489), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle thanks to PharmicistRick. Poured a clear golden color with a moderate white head that left some lacing. Aroma is dull, with some light pilsner malt and some yeast. Bland, smooth entry with some light citrus and a light yeasty touch compose the flavor. No saison funk, and none of the dryness saisons are known for. A bit disappointing, especially considering how solid most of Lagunitas brews are.
PilsnerPeter (1376), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 20, 2008 Tap at The Diamond: Pours a golden color with lots of clarity and a creamy white film of head. The aroma is dominated by a grainy malt character, reminiscent of plain croûtons, bird food, and a very mild bubblegum ester in the background. Light feel on the palate. The flavor has some of that grainy malt character as well, with dried bread crust, bird seeds, and not fruity flavors to speak of. The later palate does have a bit of spiciness, but it’s very mild and nondescript. Pretty vague, but at least it isn’t sugary sweet like some other failed American examples davidoc (109), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 15, 2008 Poured golden yellow from the bottle with a minimal head and high carbonation. Earthy aroma, bubblegum taste. BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Pours a golden champagne color, with a bit of bubbly effervescence that forms a small ring of quickly dissipating foam. Very nice nose, citrus, toasted bread crusts, honey, a light bit of persipan and even a bit of tropical flowers, almost a hibiscus floral nature, elegant and delicate. The flavor is quite nice, pie crust, honey, gentle spices and more biscuity notes. This is very pleasurable to drink. Well done! JohnnyJ (643), Reno, Nevada, USA Aug 1, 2008 Not a very interesting saison. Pours a straw gold with thin white head. Sweet malt, biscuits, some honey, and notes of lemon zest and earthiness. Also a little bit buttery. Rather bland, but still drinkable. SuzyGreenberg (900), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours a light gold and white head fades quickly; lots of carbonation; aromas are sweet and grassy; a little earth-funk too with lemons; texture is thin and juice like; honey mainly and very sweet; blah; my excitement for this ended at first sip; a poor saison
