| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Not as bitter as I expected. The alcohol was not a factor here, very smooth beverage. Lower priced than other beers of it’s kind with this high of an abv (which is why i picked one up). Overall a good beer I wouldn’t shy away from, but not something i’d buy if I was trying to spoil myself. eyesandsmiles (179), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2007 A pretty standard strong american ale. You should like it. Be suprised if you didn’t. GuilTTy (538), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 25, 2007 Clear deep amber/copper pour with a 2 finger khaki head in a new Sam Adams glass. Sweet aroma of brown sugar and malt with a little grapefruit. Flavor is tilted toward the malty end with plenty of caramel, toffee and milk chocolate. Hops apparent but not nearly as aggressive as anticipated. Nice rich mouthfeel and a slightly peppery finish where the alcohol joins the party. I’d echo the comments from mj - this brew is quite close to their Censored Rich Copper Ale. Not a bad beer and one I would happily drink again but not one that I would go out and look for. jclzony (25), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2007 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark copper with a beige head. The aroma contains a moderate amount of nice floral hops. The first sip is a little sweet, however it contains a solid caramel malt backbone that quickly turns to hops and finishes with a good strong hop flavor. Grapefruit, pine, and earthy hops carry through to the finish. The pine and grapefruit flavor lingers in the aftertaste for quite awhile. The 9.28% abv is well disguised beneath the hops. This beer exhibits a Medium body with moderate carbonation and could pack a wallop if too many are consumed. ¾ (5011), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Seems to be in the vein of so many other Lagunitas strong ales - rich chewy brown sugar and toffee malt flavors, easily apparent and uncomplex, with a moderately high hop level that only adds a tinge of bitterness and nearly no flavor. At least the alcohol isn’t apparent in this beer, I’ll give them that, but I wasn’t too impressed with the standard caramel and raisin malt nose, nor with the standard but slightly thin flavors of caramel and caramelized hops. I could certainly drink this, no question, but like everything else Lagunitas I just don’t think I’ll be buying it again.
