| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Bottle. Clear burnt-orange color with a medium+ head. Fair lacing. Aroma of pine and caramel biscuits. Taste seems to brings out the malts a little more (than the aroma). Sweet caramel biscuit all the way. A bit warm. Nice. hophead75 (1961), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Another ASA from Lagunitas...go figure... reddish amber in color with a medium to large off white head. good lacing. Aroma of caramel and citrus fruits-very fresh. Taste is of caramel, and dark crystal malts balanced nicely with citrus and mango, a nice bitterness throughout. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2007 How appropriate, drinking "Shut-down" ale during my employer’s July "shut-down" week. Nose of pine, spice, lemon, mango, perfume & flowers. The brew pours a sparkling copper with amber highlights. The fully lasting off-white head is creamy and sticky, leaving very good lace. The flavor starts balanced with low acidity and a spicy middle. The finish is bitter. The medium body is creamy and soft. The finish feels astringent. **I had to dock the flavor a couple of points; because as the brew warmed and breathed I picked up an almost unbearable quality of soap in every swig.** Not sure what that was all about, but I didn’t care for it at all! shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2007 6/21/2007: Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is clear and is deep amber-orange in color. It also has a creamy beige head. Sweet malts combined with a lush, dry-hopped citrus createds a very inviting aroma. This beer is very malty and sweet with flavors of rich caramel and citrus hops. Initially there is a moderate bittereness, but it grows more and more with each taste. In addition, the alcohol is surprisingly not obvious in the flavor. The palate is sticky and the body is medium-full. This is another good beer from Lagunitas, but it is very similar to the other American Strong Ales that they make...

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Picked up single 22-oz bottle at John’s Market Place in Portland, OR. Pours a semi-hazy copperish amber brew with an average off-white head. Slowly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus peel, and a touch of papaya. Taste is sweet, smooth with an immediate distinct bitter taste. Finish is a lingering bitter with a warm alcohol character.
