Served at cellar temperature (55 degrees) this poured a deep orange with some haze and raised a big foamy head the was more light yellow than white. The lacing looked like a crocheted table cloth. Overall very attractive. The nose was of ripe fruit with hard to identify spices in the background. Very rich mouthfeel, almost greasy at first but clean on the back of the tongue. Flavors are fairly complex, with citrus and ripe fruit, and the finish is surprisingly dry. Hides the alcohol well. Overall very nice to drink. I am glad I have a second bottle.

Sep 7, 2008 My golly, are they gonna run the whole gamut with this release series? What will One Size Fits All, or Joe’s Garage, or Yellow Shark be like? I assume only time will tell. We’re only, what, 25 years away from the Yellow Shark tribute release? Will Burnt Weeny Sandwich or Lumpy Gravy taste just as advertised? And how does Lather fit into alll this? Will we get an ironic "Best of" compilation release?

Sep 7, 2008 Aroma is a nice Belgian yeast scent. Color is golden with a touch of orange. Carbonation is very light with only a thin ring for a head. Taste is sweet and hoppy. Starting with a medium body with a rich feel. Finish comes on sweet with a Belgian yeast taste, caramel and a touch of fruit, then a hint of hops. After taste is a Belgian flavor that jumps up just a bit then a mild bitterness. Nice Tipel, not the best but it has some good Belgian tones.

Sep 7, 2008 FIRST TRIAL: orange-y amber body with a thing ring of head around the rim of the glass; Aroma is fruity esters, alcohol, and a bit of subtle spiciness in the background; taste is almost identical with a lot of fruity yeastiness and balancing spice; mouthfeel is suprisingly non-effervescent. Overall, this beer is just unremarkable... In fact I struggled to even write this brief review on it, and with this beer, the end result doesn’t even equal the sum of its parts. Although I’ve had good luck with the other beers in the Zappa series, and although I like some of Lagunitas’s other offerings, I don’t feel like they’re improving as a brewer the way others are... I feel like their most recent attempts have been less successful than their initial offerings. I’ve yet to have an American-made Tripel blow me out of the water though, so maybe I’m being overly pessimistic.

Sep 7, 2008 Bomber.... an american interpretation of a trippel with some hops.... Pours hazy and golden with a thin/rapidly thinning white head. Aromas are typical belgian trippel, in fact my buddy poured it and offered it as an IPA and the smell told me it was a belgian. Though classic trippel flavors dominated, there is the west coast hop element... though subdued, which makes this a very nice brew indeed.

Sep 7, 2008 Lagunitas changes up the Zappa series with a Belgian Tripel instead of a pale ale, IPA or 2XIPA. ’Money’ has the strong yeast/malt combo expected in a Belgian Tripel. Hops take a backseat, which leaves the Tripel a bit one dimensional.
