MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Bready and smoky caramelized malts thrive alongside fruity esters before tumbling into a green hop and roasted malt bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the blackened dark brown.
-This is sweetish to be super drinkable, but it’s still a pleasant brew.
-Roastiness is there but quiet, and black bean notes are also tasted.
-This is not the strongest Baltic Porter, but the malt signature is definitely there.
Bottle. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Sep 9, 2009 (Bottle. Thanks to Saint Matty) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of sweet black coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread and dried fruit. Malty taste with dark rye bread, sweet black coffee and liquorice. Balanced bitterness. Full body, fairly sweet. A nice and solid Baltic porter. bierkoning (5987), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 11, 2009 Bottle from Tbone, drunk @ the Grasstrack Races Lattrop. Deep dark color. Roastaroma with molasses. Sweetish flavor with roasted malt, molasses and licorice. Medium bodied. Roastbitter finish. Cane sugar. maybe a bit onedimensional, but a pleasant and perfectly drinkable porter. gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 28, 2009 Bottle. Dark red brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted, malt, coffee. Flavour is coffee, roasted malt, fruit, hop. Full bodied Nice beer gyllenbock (238), Stockholm, Sweden May 17, 2009 50 cl bottle. Dark nice color. Rather nice roasted malts with some coffee and caramel. Some sweet malts in the taste. A little thin, drinkable but not that fun. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway May 13, 2009 Bottle. A dark, reddish brown beer, clear, with a two-finger creamy off-white head. Beef-stock, coffee-notes, roasted malts and a hint of wet cardboard in the aroma. Coffee, beef-stock, roasted malts, some chocolate and a lack of hops in the mouth, dry and full-bodied. It finishes in the same roasted, stocky way, and still without any hoppy bitterness worth mentioning. The beer could use some hops, and the wet cardboard in the aroma should go. Else, it’s a nice beer. (090501) Nordcore (266), North of, Norway Apr 29, 2009 Bottle 50 CL. Apperance; Alomost black, deep red with a light brown head. Aroma of malt and coffee, a bit sweet.
