(From old notes, draught at St. Urho’s on 2008-01-17) Black. Full bodied, lots of malts some of which gives a bit burned taste. Some pleasant bitterness from hops.

500ml bottle. Light brown thick creamy head. Dark, almost black: very little light comes through. Sweet roasted malts aroma with coffee. semi-thick palate. Flavour is very, very metallic and Almost irritating . Also burnt and bitter. I’m drinking this 10C and it should be 7C, don’t know if it matters.

Bottled(500ml). -Deep black coloured, medium sized pale brown head that went away very slowly, roasted coffee nose. Roasted malt and roasted coffee taste with slight sweet notes of licorice and chocolate. Notes of nuts in the finish. Good porter but nothing more than that.

0,5l bottle. Very dark color, nice brownish head. Nose is dominated by roasted coffee and malts. Not quite enough body for my liking. Metallic flavor including burnt coffee. Espresso-like finish.

Sturdy tan foam and black hue. Expressive nose replete with chocolate chip cookies, treacle, star anise, molasses and port. Big plumy sweetness along with the requisite mild acidity, light on the chocolate and then very roasty in the finish. Creamy, shy carbonation, thick to the tongue.

Lacks the balancing sweets the nose predicts -- still a good drop.

50 cl bottle, best before 07 / 02 / 2009.

Deep, clear, brown hue with a large, frothy, tan head. Nose is full of toasted almonds, Dutch processed cocoa, dark (oily) coffee and toasted marshmallows. Lots of toasted/roasted presence here. Grassy and oily as well, with perhaps a hint of plastic somewhere in there. Light milky sweetness to the flavour alongside a huge dose of roast, shifting into an almond bitter, grassy and herbal finish with still insane levels of roast. Very roasty and bitter throughout, could stand to have a little more sweetness for balance. It doesn’t feel overly dry for all of the oiliness, but it’s crying for some malt sweetness. Thicker than medium body with an oily texture and lively (could stand to be toned down) carbonation. Some mild tar-like aromatics and flavours pop up with significant warmth. Better than average, quite nearly thought provoking; more sweetness or depth would launch this one. 50cl bottle, bbe 07/02/2009. 6/4/6/3/14 = 3.3

Rerate on 08/04/2008, bbe 05/11/2008. Sweeter this time, exactly what I was craving last time in balance of the massive roast. Very nutty this time as well. 7/4/7/4/15 = 3.7 Using the average of the two scores, corrected via the overall category.
