Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a medium, frothy off white head. Aroma of citrus hops, bready malt, pretty well balanced. Taste is some grapefruit, caramel malt and some mustiness. A little thin, easy drinking. I dig it.

Smooth, crisp hop tastes pair with a solid toast and porridge malt. Very drinkable, save for a sharp aftertaste.

I also thought this was going to be an American lager,knew something was up when I saw the orange amber color. Aroma was really surprising fresh west coast hops,citrusy as anything I smelled lately, maybe some light sweet caramel malts lurking in the background. First thing you notice in the taste is that it is a lot thinner then the full aroma cloud led you to believe. Sharp dry fruity hop smacks you and dominates throughout. Again little hints of caramel sweetness way in background,sharp dry bitter finish. Definitely more an IPA then APA, but hopheads its worth a bottle just for the aroma

12/11/2007: Based on the name, I would have guessed that Lake Louie Arena Premium was a Pale Lager. However, judging by the appearance this beer is either not the typical Pale Lager or it is something else entirely. This beer has a nice amber color with a rigid and long-lasting beige head. There is some fine sediment suspended in the beer along witha moderate level of carbonation. It also has extremely tight and detailed lacing. The aroma contains quite a bit of butterscotch along with some spicy (almost minty) hops and toasted malt in the background. The flavor is creamy and malty with lightly toasted European malts along with an extremely well matched earthy and floral (along with traces of grass and spiciness like a Pils might have) bitterness. Needless to say, this is far from a Pale Lager and definitely an English-style Pale Ale! The flavor is rich and exciting and this beer is very well-crafted. It also has a medium-full body and is really quite smooth and creamy on the palate. This beer goes down great and the flavor has a lot of really nice texture. Lake Louie Arena Premium would make a really nice session beer and is worthy of being shared with friends, family, and beer geeks alike. Yum!

I’ve been picking up local beers that I have constantly passed on now that I am moving away from the area. This one was on the list. For some reason pale ales fall very low on my priority list despite being a nice change of pace from huge imperial stouts and IPAs. This one was solid and well made; if I would have tried it earlier I might have made it a standby beer.

Aroma / Appearance - The head was stark white and about a half finger in height. Underneath was a bronze colored body that smelled of caramel, malt, lemony hops and apple sauce. It wasn’t terribly complex but I have yet to run aross an APA that is.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel and molasses dominate the first sips before yielding to a balanced hoppy and maltiness. The body is nice and fluid without being watery. I’m not sure what to make of it overall. While it has some strong qualities it also is a pretty simple beer. It might make a nice gateway beer for sharing with your "Budweiser equals beer" friends.

12 oz bottle via skyview (thanks!). Pours a hazy amber with a large head. Not much in the nose, just a slight citrus aroma. The taste is quite strange. I am getting some sweet and sourness, some green apples and lemons, some toasted grains and some floral hops, with a grainy sourish aftertaste. I think this is in the beginning 1/3 of infection stage. Body is light, carbonation is high.

Bottle thanks to Brigadier sampled on 2/13/07: Pours a transparent golden bronze with a well-lacing white head. Big, fresh citrusy hoppy aroma has a slightly sweet caramel maltiness. Body starts with a mild, earthy malty sweetness with good, fresh bittersweet hoppy character. Nicely-balanced and very drinkable.
