hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bottle… Murky caramel-colored ale with a small creamy, off-white head. The earthy, malty, acidic nose is of caramel, dry leather, lactic acid and black cherries. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. Tastes infected to me - unless it’s wood aged - in which case, it’s still infected, but in a purposeful way. It’s fairly tangy and I’m not convinced that any Scotch ale should be this acidic. Also, lots of caramel and black cherries, but it’s every bit as tart as it is sweet. Finishes tangy and dry. Hmmm? I’m confused by this one and I’m not certain this is what the brewer intended, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks to Skyview for the bottle! lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2009 Bottle in trade from wisrarebeer. Thanks! Pours clear dark amber maroon with short lived beige head. Smell is earthy, nutty, malty and a bit peaty. Taste is smooth, chocolate and caramel maltiness, and slightly tart and peaty with a touch of hops. Creamy soft mouthfeel and carbonation with a medium to full body. Really not too bad, and pretty good as Scotch ales got, but this one didn’t make me love them. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Dec 19, 2008 creamy. not too sweet. bitter.earthy but not too much of the peat or smoke. I say wll done but not a big leap forward past warped speed which is a less expensive classice with a coffe note added in. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Oct 26, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard. Pours deep brown with light tan head. The aroma has musty dark fruitiness, solid earthiness and sticky mushed up stale berries. The taste is bold and very inviting. Yum. Tasty rich mildly roasted maltiness starts things off followed quickly by firm earthiness. Toward the finish a layer of berry fruitiness and tart fruitiness picks up the flavor and carries this puppy to closure. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 6, 2008 Courtesy of gillard.
Pours amber, beige head.
Aroma, caramel, suagry.
Taste, malty, chocolat / caramel notes.
Found the beer to be quite enjoyable. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 29, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish body with a small, wispy, ivory-colored head.
Smell: Toasty caramel malts, but I’m left wanting an integral peat character. What gives? I never pick up much in the way of peat, be it the aroma or flavor.
Taste: Toasty caramel maltiness with a middling sweetness. Sip of frothed fruit juices accompanied by a slight, slightly displeasing tartness. Some hop bitterness can’t manage to shake the tartness from the taste. Picks up an odd astringency near the end. Finishes dry. Bleh.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A pretty poor offering. PASS. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 13, 2008 Date: 06/21/2008

I would like to rerate this beer.
JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jul 9, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Slightly cloudy ruby-copper color, thin layer of soapy white head. Malty sweetness on the aroma, along with some mild English hops, vaguely grassy. Rich malts apparent on the taste wit an earthy finish. Did not taste like 9%. Lacks the depth of the better Scotch ales.
