Shared by beastiefan2k (thanks, Eugene) - turbid reddish brown pour, with a foamy, though short-lived head - aroma of brown sugar, dried cherries, tobacco, notes of burnt rubber (phenolic? not quite - hard to place - perhaps this is the smoked malt? - well, I stand by the burnt rubber comment) - fairly sweet, with brown sugar and toffee farily present - the dried fruits are there, and that burnt quality from the aroma (although I can’t say I taste any rubber, just a kind of over-cooked, vegetal quality) - the body is a bit too thin - this stuff just didn’t sit right on my palate.

GTMW 2007. Poured a slightly hazy orange-brown color. Very earth aroma of soy, broken green leaves, and wet black soil. There was also a hint of dry dog food. Slightly sweet on the tongue with spicy malt and alcohol flavors accented by a wee bit of peated malt.

GTMW 2007. The beer pours to a clear medium mahogany wood colored body with a large dense frothy off-white head. Very thick. The aroma is grainy and tart with a dusty chalk. The flavor was moderately sweet and slightly tart with a bunch of grain and caramel and dusty chalk. I wasn’t really impressed, but it didn’t taste bad as a sum. The body is medium with a dry oiliness and medium astringency. The brewery was pouring it, so I assume it’s as intended. I simply didn’t like it.

Big thanks to Sneagrams3 for the trade on this hard to find brew. Pours dark amber / brown with a good sized tan head. The aroma has rich caramel malt with some spiciness and moderate sweetness and bread. Quite clean. Medium body at the beginning then fairly thin on the finish with a good amount of carbonation. Taste starts fruity with dark caramel, bits of toffee and hints of metallicness (not sure if that’s a word). Very malty but not very thick. The finish is somewhat grainy, sweet, spice and a bit astringent. A good beer, but has a couple flaws that keep it from being something special. This does hide the 9% incredibly well.

From a bottle purchased at Steve’s Liquor in Madison. Label notes "Reserve Strong Scotch Ale." Pours a dark copper brown, impressive hue, although lacing is pure white. Smells on the nose and tastes on the palate more like a barleywine, aside from the touch of smoke. There’s quite a bit of sweetness here, so much so that I imagine there will be some detractors on this basis alone. Candied fruit, fig jam, toasty oak, vanilla, and a pleasant warming finish. One of the better scotch ales I’ve had in awhile, and if we’re rating to style, I’m going upper 4s for this. Great work, Lake Louie!

120z bottle. Filtered and a deep ruby garnet hue. Tan ring of head. Malty cocoa and buttery and a note of raisins. Plummy with a slight vanilla note. Dark fruit. All that in the nose. Wow! Thick and full bodied. Dark fruit and chocolate flavors. Oily and slick. Yet with a great dry roasty finish. Smooth with a nice burn. Sweet and cloying. Just the way I like ’em! This is money.

Bottle - this review is for "Reserve Strong Scotch Ale" - is this the same beer? Clear walnut or cherrywood brown, with enough of a head to add style points. Nose is light woodsmoke. Hits the mouth with a rush of heat followed eventually (that is some rush!) by peat smoke and bitterness. Some woodiness as well, late vanilla. Rolls all over the tongue. A fine beer!

Clear rusty body with a minimal, oily grayish head. Aroma of maple syrup and sweet, decadent liqueur. Bourbon notes with a light smoky aspect in the flavor plus dark fruit skins. A very good American Scotch Ale. Thanks to weeare138 for sharing.
