Ungstrup (14723), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 4, 2009 Bottled. A deep red beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and light notes of chocolate. The flavor is acidic malty combined with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, leading to a dry, acidic, and roasted finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. Bockyhorsey (2483), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 27, 2009 Wife got this for me when in WI. Milk and farm house aroma. Brown body with tan head. Flavor of roasted malt with creamy milk texture. Decent brew. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2009 Bottle - Pours deep black with no head, and looks pretty thin when held up to the light. The smell is decent, with smoke, beef jerky, coffee, and lactose, but you really have to get your nose in there to smell it. Taste is a little better, with smoke, roasty notes, and a touch of lactose. It’s smooth, with some hops and bitter roastiness on the finish. Medium bodied and pleasant, but after I finished it, I didn’t really want another. Decent. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Mar 7, 2009 12oz bottle @Tampa Wkly Gathering shared by SeaBass–pours a light brown ring for a head and dark brown color. Aroma is roasty, lactose, dark malt-chocolate/chickory. Taste is roasty, lactose, dark malt-chocolate/chickory. Brigadier (1211), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Feb 21, 2009 12 oz bottle
I am kicking myself for not trying this when I had the chance in Wisconsin. Fortunately noncaloric came through and sent me a pair of bottles. If I find more when passing through the state I may just have to pick them up. Lake Louie doesn’t do much outside their regular rotation but they do them very well.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep black body was graced by a solid tan head. Smoky marshmellows, oatmeal, licorice, and other sweet aspects created an inviting air.
Flavor / Palate - With the light smokiness this instantly set itself apart from other sweet stouts. The fluid mouthfeel reminded me of oatmeal, ash, and vanilla cocoa. The milk comes through strongest in the finish. Leaving the throat refreshed this beer almost demands that you keep drinking it until you have none left. Check it out if you are a fan of well made craft beers from regional masters. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Feb 18, 2009 Courtesy of SeaBass. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. The aroma is roasty malts, some oak, pine hops, burnt malts and black licorice. Seems like a hodgepodge of notes but they seem to come together for a pleasing aromatic quality. The taste feels thin to start bringing in notes of nearly burnt malts, mild roasted malt astringency and very mild lactose. It ends with solid roasted malt notes. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle thanks to sebletitje. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Nose is brown sugar, mocha, smoke, vanilla, and sweet malt. Flavor is background smoke, sweet malt, background hops, and some coffee. Finish is malt with coffee and a bit of bitterness in the background. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 13, 2009 courtesy of abends.
