Steve’s Liquor Madison
Prairie Moon pours a cloudy haylike yellow. After swirling the last half inch or so of the bottle and pouring into the weizen glass the yeast mixture turns the body a deeper golden as if falls. Solid amount of carbonation rises to the head. The body looks just like a witbier should but the head is somewhat disappointing. I tried to coax out a head with an aggressive pour but only got a half finger at it’s peak and that quickly faded to a swirling.
It’s funny but the first from the six pack that I drank had the aroma of bologna. After letting the beer warm to a more appropriate temperature the right kind of aromas come forward. Coriander, mild white pepper and sweet orange peel all show themselves over a twangy wheat base. Mild lemon as well. After warming this beer smells like a good wit should.
The entire flavor is based around twangy wheat. The spicing is very good, not at all overpowering like some other wits tasted in the past. Coriander comes around mid palate along with a sprinkling of white pepper and a couple drops of lemon juice. The sweet orange peel shows up on the finish with a juicy sweetness.
Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Actually velvety is more like it. Mildly tingly carbonation kick starts the tongue just enough.
Solid witbier thats made for hot summer days like today. An enjoyable treat that I could put away pretty easy.
Good brew from Lake Louie. Not my favorite style but a good example to enjoy on a day in the upper 80s.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 28, 2007 A nice looking yellow / orange unfiltered brew. Plenty of wheat in the aroma but it is more complex than that. Coriander and orange are prominent but some spice also comes through. In the mouth the feeling is smoother than a hefe and the front of the tongue is stimulated. Flavor is also quite fruity with banana, lemon, and orange easily identified. The spices are more subtle but clearly impact the flavor. They give a unique definition to the sweetness of the beer. This is a great easy drinking summer beer and also a fun sampling experience. drewbeerme (2291), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 3, 2007 7/03/2007: Lake Louie Prairie Moon Farmhouse Ale is an interesting color. I can’t decide if the color is more like light fuzzy peach or very pale apricot. I guess either would be sufficiently applicable. Where is my wife when I need her?! She would know how to describe it! Either way, it is cloudy and there is a thin, diminishing white crown on the surface. At first this beer smells more like a Belgian Wit based on the orangy citrus and corriander in the nose. However, further inspection reveals that it is more complex than that as subtle scents of wheat, grass, and other herbs, spices, and fruits surface. The flavor is also complex and hard to describe. There is a large infusion of various flavors including wheat, yeast, lemon, various herbs and spices, ginger, grassy and floral hops, and a slight funkiness. There is also an enjoyable level of sourness and a lingering bitterness that is mild and pleasant. The flavor is very interesting and quite good overall. The medium body is slightly effervescent which makes it feel lightweight and airy on the palate. Well done! This is a nicely crafted beer that would appeal to those who prefer a Belgian Wit and/or Saison. There are many characteristics of both styles married together in this tasty brew!
